Symptoms
 After applying the IBM ServeRAID 3.60 adapter/drivers, you receive the following error:

"IrpStackSize too small to access a local device"

Affected configurations
 The system is any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:

  • a Netfinity 8500R server, type 8681, any model
  • a Netfinity 7600 server, type 8665, any model
  • a Netfinity 7100 server, type 8666, any model
  • a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, type 8680, any model
  • a Netfinity 7000 server, type 8651, any model
  • a Netfinity 6000R server, type 8682, any model
  • a Netfinity 5600 server, type 8664, any model
  • a Netfinity 5500-M20 server, type 8662, any model
  • a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, type 8661, any model
  • a Netfinity 5500 server, type 8660, any model
  • a Netfinity 5100 server, type 8658, any model
  • a Netfinity 5000 server, type 8659, any model
  • a Netfinity 4500R server, type 8656, any model
  • a Netfinity 3500-M20 server, type 8657, any model
  • a Netfinity 3500-M10 server, type 8655, any model
  • a Netfinity 3500 server, type 8644, any model
  • a Netfinity 3000 server, type 8476, any model
  • a Netfinity 1000 server, type 8477, any model

The system is any of the following IBM PC Servers:

  • a PC Server 704, type 8650, any model
  • a PC Server 330, type 8640, any model
  • a PC Server 325, type 8639, any model
  • a PC Server 315, type 8638, any model
  • a PC Server 310, type 8639, any model

The system has one of the following options:

  • a ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter, Option p/n 76H3584, FRU p/n 76H3587
  • a Netfinity ServeRAID-3H Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, Option p/n 01K7207, FRU p/n 01K7396
  • a Netfinity ServeRAID-3L Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, Option p/n 01K7364, FRU p/n 01K7352
  • a Netfinity ServeRAID-3HB Ultra2 SCSI adapter, Option p/n 37L6086, FRU p/n 01K7396

The following Network Operating System is affected:

Microsoft Windows NT, version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 applied.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution
 The behavior is corrected in BIOS/Firmware, Device Driver and Command Line Program release:

  • PC ServeRAID BIOS and Firmware Diskette, version 3.61, or later
  • IBM ServeRAID Device Drivers Diskette, version 3.61, or later
  • IBM ServeRAID Command Line Program Diskette, version 3.61, or later

NOTE: IBM does not test the combined use of software (FTDISK.SYS) and hardware (ServeRAID) mirroring.

Workaround
 1. Start REGEDT32.EXE.

2. In the following key, change the value of the DWORD to "09" or "0C":
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
