Troubleshooting
Problem
In systems where the front system error Light Emitting Diode (LED) is lit, and the lightpath panel BRD LED is lit, the LEDs on the processor and/or I/O boards that indicate which board has an error are not easily viewable after removing just the top cover. More steps need to be performed in order to view the lit LEDs.

Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3850 X5, type 7145, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7146, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The Lightpath utility is affected.
Workaround
In order to determine if there is an error with the I/O board or microprocessor board, refer to the virtual lightpath indicators in the Integrated Management Module (IMM) web interface.
The board error LED status is also available to IBM Servicers in the IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) log.
To view the error LEDs, complete the following steps:
- Remove the top cover.
- I/O boards: For a small number of the initially shipped servers, the error LED is located under a metal floor behind PCIe slot #6. The LED can be seen from the front of the server at an angle. In subsequent builds, the LED is repositioned about an inch away and can be seen without having to view it at an angle.
- Microprocessor boards: If there is a filler in Memory card slot #7, then remove the filler to view the error LED. If there is a memory card in slot #7, then DC power off the server and remove the memory card to view the error LED.
