'Invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit' when running Standard Reports

Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches Controller, and runs any 'standard report' (also known as 'system report'). For example, user clicks "Open Company – Define view - Open Group –Reports - Journals – view" Report displays in browser window as HTML. User changes selection to preview report in PDF. User receives error. User clicks OK. User receives further errors.

Symptom

Error #1:


Adobe Reader
Invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit
[OK]

Error #2:


    IBM Cognos 8 Controller
    Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.
    Out of memory
    [Details] [Continue]

If click 'Continue' then the 'background' of Controller will change into a white screen with a thin red cross.

There may also be another error, such as:
    Reports - Journals (Preview)
    Unhandled exception has occured in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.
    Not enough storage is available to process this command
    [Details] [Continue]

If click 'Details':
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Not enough storage is available to process this command
at System.Drawing.BufferedGraphicsContext.CreateCompatibleDIB(...

Cause

Issue with third-party (non-IBM) software product "Adobe Acrobat Reader" installed on client device.

Resolving The Problem

Adobe Reader is a third-party (non IBM) product. Refer to Adobe for help in resolving this issue.
