An error message stating "Invalid Partition Format" might occur while attempting to recreate a mirrored configuration using the onboard controller, LSI1030 or LSI1020 (depending on your system).

Symptom

An error message stating "Invalid Partition Format" might occur while attempting to recreate a mirrored configuration using the onboard controller, LSI1030 or LSI1020 (depending on your system).

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM eServers:
  • eServer 325, type 8835, any model
  • BladeCenter HS40, type 8839, any model
  • BladeCenter HS20, type 8678, any model
  • BladeCenter HS20, type 8832, any model
  • BladeCenter HS20, type 8843, any model
  • xSeries 455, type 8855, any model
  • xSeries 450, type 8688, any model
  • xSeries 445, type 8870, any model
  • xSeries 382, type 8834, any model
  • xSeries 365, type 8862, any model
  • xSeries 365, type 8861, any model
  • xSeries 345, type 8670, any model
  • xSeries 336, type 8838, any model
  • xSeries 336, type 8837, any model
  • xSeries 335, type 8830, any model
  • xSeries 335, type 8676, any model
  • xSeries 235, type 8671, any model
  • xSeries 225, type 8649, any model
  • xSeries 225, type 8647, any model

The system may be any of the following IBM IntelliStations:

  • IntelliStation Z Pro, type 6221, any model
Solution

None. This is working as designed.

Workaround

Use any ServeRAID CD, version 6.10 and up. Boot the system using the ServeRAID CD and recreate the mirrored configuration on the onboard controller using the ServeRAID Manager.

Additional information

The following are the partition types supported by the onboard LSI Setup tool:

  • 12-bit and 16-bit FAT (DOS)
  • FAT32
  • NTFS (Windows NT)
  • HPFS (OS/2)
  • JFS (OS/2)
  • Unix System V (SCO, Unixware)
  • Linux swap
  • ext2fs (Linux)

If configuring with a partition type not mentioned above, please use the ServeRAID CD to configure the mirrored pair.
 
Note: That this procedure works on Microsoft Dynamic Disks only when the mirror was configured before the Dynamic Disk.
