Problem

When the user logs off of the Integrated Management Module (IMM) web interface and then immediately attempts to log in again, the web interface may become unresponsive, appearing to be hung.

Symptom

When the user logs off of the Integrated Management Module (IMM) web interface and then immediately attempts to log in again, the web interface may become unresponsive, appearing to be hung.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3200 M3, type 7327, any model
  • System x3200 M3, type 7328, any model
  • System x3250 M3, type 4251, any model
  • System x3250 M3, type 4252, any model
  • System x3250 M3, type 4261, any model
  • System x3400 M2, type 7836, any model
  • System x3400 M2, type 7837, any model
  • System x3400 M3, type 7378, any model
  • System x3400 M3, type 7379, any model
  • System x3500 M2, type 7839, any model
  • System x3500 M3, type 7380, any model

This tip is not software specific.

This tip is not option specific.

The following system firmware level(s) are affected:

  • Integrated Management Module (IMM) yuoo84c

Solution

This behavior has been corrected in IMM firmware v1.24 (YU0091E).

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

The issue can be resolved by restarting the IMM from the IMM Command Line Interface (CLI) or from the server Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) screen.

For restarting from the CLI, the user can use either telnet or SSH to log in to the IMM. The user then issues the "resetsp" command.

For example:

  Welcome to the server management network terminal!

login : USERID
Password: ********

system>resetsp

To restart the IMM from the UEFI screen, boot the server and press "F1" when prompted.

From the "System Configuration and Boot Management" page, select System Settings, Integrated Management Module, Reset IMM.

Additional information

The Symptom occurs when the user logs off from the IMM while there are still requests queued to the IMM web server, and then attempts to log back on to the IMM before the queued requests are deleted. The queued requests are typically due to the user attempting to navigate from one IMM web page to another and not allowing the web page update to complete before going to another IMM web page.

The Workaround is to restart the IMM, which will bring the IMM web server back up to a working state.

The Fix will clear the pending IMM web server requests before the user is logged off.
