Installing Rational ClearCase/ClearQuest 7.1.2 with License Key Administrator fails 8.1.1 with NullPointerException error

Problem

Attempts to install IBM Rational ClearCase/Rational ClearQuest V7.1.2 install package and Rational License Key Administrator V8.1.1 at same time fails with the error ' java.lang.NullPointerException ' in the IBM Installation Manager.

Symptom

Scenario to encounter the issue :

  1. Download the multilingual installation package of IBM Rational ClearCase or ClearQuest version 7.1.2 for Microsoft Window from IBM Passport Advantage.

  2. Unzip the file RATL_ClearQuest_7.1.2_WIN.zip or RATL_ClearCase_7.1.2_WIN.zip.

  3. Double click launchpad.exe to select Install the IBM Rational ClearCase or ClearQuest.

  4. Select these install packages:

    IBM Installation Manager 1.4.1
    IBM Rational ClearCase (or ClearQuest) - Windows 7.1.2.00
    IBM Rational License Key Administrator 8.1.1



  5. Installation fails with this error:

    An error occurs during the step of configuring after installation : java.lang.NullPointerException



  6. Rational ClearCase or ClearQuest is installed, but Installation Manager and License Key Administrator are not installed.
