Follow the IBM eServer xSeries network operating system (NOS) installation instructions provided in this document in sequential order unless these instructions advise you differently. Windows and messages might differ from those in this document. Throughout this document, the term select is used to denote the use of arrow keys or the mouse to make a selection from a menu.

6.1 Installations involving ServeRAID 4M, 4Mx, 4L, 4Lx, 5i, and 6 controllers
You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:
- A licensed copy of Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
- Supported hard disk drives. Go to the IBM ServerProven Web site for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for your server.
- A supported adapter. Go to the IBM ServerProven Web site for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for your server.
- One blank diskette to create a BIOS code flash diskette. You might need additional blank diskettes for firmware updates.

The IBM ServeRAID Support CD version 6.00.31 or later, if you are using the IBM ServeRAID-4Mx, 4M, 4Lx, 4L, 5i, or 6 controller.
Note: IBM ServeRAID Support CD version 6.00.31 does not support clustering but there will be a later version of ServeRAID that will.
2.0 Where to download device drivers and files
You can download device drivers and files from the following sites:
- To download the IBM Advanced System Management device driver, and the IBM eServer Active PCI device driver, go to Servers - File and device driver downloads.
- To download the ServeRAID driver, go to the ServeRAID - Software Matrix.
3.0 Before you install Windows Server 2003 / Setting up the hardware for a Windows 2003 installation
When using an IBM xSeries server, do not remove the cover during the operation to ensure that the server internals are cooled properly. Take extreme caution when moving an xSeries server. See the installation guide for more installation.
Components can be installed after you complete the Windows Server 2003 installation process.
Determine if the server is equipped with an IBM ServeRAID adapter. If your server comes with a ServeRAID adapter, you must perform additional procedures in 6.0 Appendix before you proceed with the installation instructions in section 4.0.
- Turn on the server. Insert the Windows Server 2003 (32-Bit) Setup CD into the CD-ROM drive and restart the server.
Note: When the server restarts, you might be prompted with the message "Press any key to boot from CD." Press any key to boot the server from the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD.
- The Windows Server 2003 Setup window is displayed. Setup will take a few minutes to load. Press Enter when you are prompted to install Windows Server 2003.
- Press Enter to continue.
- The licensing agreement is displayed. Read the licensing agreement, press the Page Down key to scroll to the bottom of the screen; and press F8 to select I Agree.
- Setup displays all hard disk storage that is available on the server. Use one of the following options to choose or create a drive partition in which to install Windows Server 2003:
- Allow setup to create a partition - To partition the entire disk as one primary partition, highlight the non-partitioned space on your hard drive and press Enter.
- Create a Partition - To create a partition, highlight the non-partitioned space on the hard drive. Press the C key; you will be prompted to indicate how much available space to allocate from the non-partitioned drive. Type the amount of space (in megabytes) and press Enter.
- Delete a Partition
- After you select a drive to partition, you are prompted to choose a file system. Select the NTFS file system is used.
NOTES:
Setup will format the selected partition and copy the appropriate files to the drive partition. This process will take several minutes.
The server restarts to the graphical portion of setup where setup will continue with the installation of Windows Server 2003. During this process, setup will automatically install and configure devices in the computer. This process will take several minutes.
- The Regional Settings will default to U.S. settings. Make changes if you do not install the server in the US Click Next to continue.
Note: You can modify the regional settings, after you have installed Windows Server 2003, by clicking Regional Options in the Control Panel. - The Personalize Your Software window is displayed. You will be prompted for your name and organization. Type your name in the Name field and type your organization in the Organization field. The names you type will be used as default computer names. Applications that you install on the server at a later time will use this information for the product Registration and document identification. Click Next to Continue.
- You will be prompted for the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-Key. Type the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-Key in the appropriate fields. Click Next to continue.
- In the Licensing Modes window, select the appropriate licensing mode for your organization. Click Next to continue.
- At the server Name and Administrator Password window, you will be prompted for an administrator password and computer name. (Notice that Setup uses the organization name (entered earlier) as a suggested name for the computer.) Type your computer name and password. Click Next to continue.
Note: Passwords are case sensitive. Be sure to use a combination of upper and lower case letters with at least one number for your password.
- In the Time Zone window, set the current time for Windows Server 2003. To change the date, click the button to the right of the date. To change the time, highlight the value you want to change and enter the correct values by using the keyboard, or by using the up and down arrow keys. Click Next to continue.
Note: Windows Server 2003 services perform many tasks that are dependent on the successful completion of the computer's time and date settings. Be sure to select the correct time zone for the server location to avoid subsequent problems.
- In the Networking Settings window, select typical or custom settings. If you are prompted, type the appropriate network information. Click Next to install Windows networking components.
- In the Workgroup or Computer Domain window, selected one of the following options:
- No, this computer is not on a network; it is a network without a domain. Type a workgroup name in the following box.
- Yes, make this computer a member of the following domain box.
Type the workgroup or domain name in the appropriate fields. Click Next to continue.
Setup will now install and configure the remaining operating system components according to the options you specified. Display in the left hand column is the amount of time left until the completion of Windows Server 2003 installation. This process might take several minutes.
- Remove the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD from the CD-ROM drive and click Finish. Windows Server 2003 restarts and runs the newly installed version of Windows Server 2003.
- The Windows Server 2003 program starts, Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to logon. When the desktop is displayed, you will see Windows Server 2003 configure your server wizard. The server wizard will assist in the set up of any additional Windows Server 2003 components that you selected during the installation process.
5.0 Installing and updating device drivers
Use the instructions in the following sections to install and update your device drivers.
Notes:
- Section 5.2 applies only to servers that support hot-plug PCI components. If your server does not support hot-plug PCI components, go to section 5.4.
- If two “Unknown devices” are displayed in the Windows Device Manager, install both the IBM eServer Active PCI device driver (follow instructions in Section 5.2) and the IBM Alert Standard Format Update device driver (follow instructions in Section 5.4). If the installation of the IBM eServer Active PCI Device driver does not work with the initial unknown device that you have selected, open Device Manager and select another device.
5.1 Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device driver
- Insert the CD or diskette that contains the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device drivers into the appropriate drive. For information about downloading the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet application, see. 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files for more information.
- Run the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet extraction application.
- Enter the location of the folder where the files are to be saved. Make note of this location for future reference. Later, you will need to point to this location when installing your device drivers. Click Finished.
- On the desktop, click Start, right-click My Computer, and click Manage. Click Device Manager. The Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device is detected automatically as an unknown device under Other Devices -> Ethernet Controller. Right-click one of the unknown Ethernet Controllers. Click Properties -> Reinstall Driver.
- In Welcome to Hardware Update Wizard window, select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
- Select Search for the best driver in these locations and below this, check the Include this location in the search option and enter the location of the Ethernet driver into the appropriate fields. Click Next.
- When the message "System found a driver for device" is displayed, click Next to install the device driver.
- When you are prompted to restart the server, click Yes if you do not have more device drivers to install, or click No if you have another device driver to install.
- Repeat steps 4 through 9 to install the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet device driver on the other Unknown Ethernet Controller.
5.2 IBM eServer Active PCI device driver
- To install the IBM eServer Active PCI Device Driver, insert the CD-ROM or diskette that contains the IBM eServer Active PCI Device Driver into the appropriate drive. For information on downloading the IBM eServer Active PCI device driver, go to 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files.
- On the desktop, click Start, right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage.
- Click Device Manager. The IBM eServer Active PCI (Hot-Plug) device is detected automatically as and unknown device under other devices. Right click one of the unknown devices and a pull-down menu displays. Select Properties. Under Location, Microsoft ACPI - Compliant System should be displayed. If it is not, click Cancel and right click the next unknown device.
Note: If the installation of the IBM eServer Active PCI device driver does not work with the initial unknown device you have selected, open Device Manager and select another device.
- In the properties window, click Reinstall Driver. In the Welcome to Hardware Update Wizard window, select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
- Select Search for the best driver in these locations and below this, check the Include this location in the search option and enter the location of the IBM Active PCI Device driver into the appropriate fields. Click Next.
- When the "System found a driver for device" prompt is displayed, click Next to install the driver.
- The upgrade device driver window will open. You are prompted that the IBM Active PCI device driver is installed. Click Finished.
5.3 IBM Advanced System Management device driver:
- To install the IBM Advanced System Management device driver, insert the CD or diskette that contains the IBM Advanced System Management device driver into the appropriate drive. For information on downloading the IBM Advanced System Management device driver, go to 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files.
- Open the WS03 folder and run the setup application. The setup application will run the IBM Service Processor Server Software that will which will install all the drivers need for the service processor.
5.4 IBM Alert Standard Format Update
Note: Installing the IBM Alert Standard Format Update eliminates one of the standard Unknown Devices that is displayed in the Windows Device Manager. This INF will not install any device drivers and the performance of the server will not be affected.
- To install the IBM Alert Standard Format Update file (ASF.inf), insert the CD or diskette that contains the IBM Alert Standard Format Update file into the appropriate drive. For information on downloading the IBM Alert Standard Format Update file, refer to section 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files.
- On the desktop, click Start, right-click My Computer and click Manage. Click Device Manager.
- Right click one of the unknown devices, a pull down menu displays. Select Properties -> Location. If the message "Microsoft ACPI - Compliant System" is not displayed, click Cancel and right click the next unknown device.
- In the properties window, click Reinstall Driver. In the Welcome to Hardware Update Wizard window, select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
- An Optional Search Location menu is displayed. Deselect all but the drive location of the driver. Click Next.
- Select Search for the best driver in these locations and select the Include this location in the search option. Type the location of the IBM Alert Standard Format Update Driver into the appropriate fields and click Next.
- When the "System found a driver for device" prompt is displayed, click Next to install the driver.

The upgrade device driver window opens and you will be prompted that the IBM Alert Standard Format Update driver has been installed. Click Finished.
Note: If the installation of the IBM Alert Standard Format Update file does not work with the initial Unknown Device chosen, try the other unknown device.
6.1 Windows installations involving ServeRAID-4M, 4Mx, 4L, 4Lx, 5i, and 6 controllers
Note: You must create and initialize ServeRAID disks before a boot partition is visible to Windows NET Server. Go to the ServeRAID - User's Reference for detailed information.
- Start the server and insert the ServeRAID CD into the CD-ROM.
- Shortly after you insert the ServeRAID CD, an IBM ServeRAID window is displayed followed by a window that displays the current BIOS and firmware levels currently installed on your ServeRAID adapter. To update the firmware levels, click Update. Otherwise, skip to step 4.
- You are prompted to restart the server. Keep the ServeRAID CD in the CD-ROM drive and restart the server.
- The server will start off the IBM ServeRAID CD again; however, this time, ServeRAID utilities will start and will be used to create and initialize the ServeRAID logical disks.
Note: You must create and initialize ServeRAID disks before a boot partition is visible to Windows NET Server. Go to the ServeRAID - User's Reference for detailed information.
- After you have created and initialized the ServeRAID disks, remove the ServeRAID CD and insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM. Restart the server and it will boot off of the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM.
- A few seconds after Windows Setup screen is displayed, the message "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" is displayed. Press F6 to install the ServeRAID driver.
Note: This message is displayed immediately after the screen changes from black to blue. You have only a few seconds to press F6.
- Windows 2003 Setup displays a window to manually specify a controller. Select S to specify additional devices.
- You are prompted to insert the manufacturer's supplied hardware support disk. Insert the diskette that contains the IBM ServeRAID Driver. After inserting the correct disk press Enter. For information on downloading the IBM ServeRAID device driver, go to 2.0 Where to download device drivers and files.
- A list of ServeRAID controllers is displayed. Select the appropriate IBM ServeRAID controller and operating system. Press Enter.
- When the IBM ServeRAID Controller files are copied, you have the option to specify additional SCSI adapters, CD-ROM drives, or special disk controllers for use with Windows 2003. If there are no more additional mass storage devices to specify, press Enter.
- Continue the Windows 2003 Setup with step 2 in 4.0 Installation instructions.
