1.0 What You Will Need

• Supported hard disk drives (Click here to view a list of the supported options and part numbers for your server.)
• A licensed copy of Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 (The three setup diskettes included in the Windows NT Server 4.0 package must be used to properly install this product.)
• An IBM 10/100 Fault Tolerant Device Driver diskette, version 2.01 or later
• A 7800 Family Manager Diskette version 2.11 S3 or later
• If you have added a PC ServeRAID II, 3-L, or 3-H adapter, you will need the following diskettes:
  • An IBM ServeRAID Device Driver Diskette , version 3.01 or later
  • An IBM ServeRAID DOS Configuration Diskette , version 3.01 or later
  • If the IBM ServeRAID BIOS is not version 3.01 (or later), you will need an IBM ServeRAID BIOS Firmware Update Diskette , version 3.01 or later
• One blank diskette (Label it "Emergency Repair Diskette".)
• Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 3 (filename NT4SP3_I.EXE) (This Service Pack is available from the FixPak CD found in ServerGuide 4.0.2 (or later), and from Microsoft's web site or FTP site (see the next section for more information).

If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with "3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users". If you are not, continue with "4.0 Detailed installation instructions".


3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users

1. If you install more than one processor in your server, install all the processors at this time.

NOTE: If you install the secondary microprocessor after you install Windows NT Server 4.0, you must reinstall the operating system.

2. Install any desired additional disk controllers that are supported.

NOTE: When you install disk controllers, be aware that disk controllers placed in slot 5 (the slot nearest the processors) will be seen by Microsoft Windows NT prior to the onboard Adaptec controller which will possibly affect your start order. It is recommended that disk controllers be placed in slot 5 only if you want to start Windows NT from a disk controller other than the onboard Adaptec controller.

3. Install the desired number of hot-swap drives into the hot-swap bays beginning at the top and proceeding downward (rack model) or beginning at the left-hand bay and proceeding rightward (tower model).
4. If you use the "Integrated Adaptec 7895 SCSI Controller", install the "Adaptec AHA-290x/291x/294x/394x/4933 or AIC-78xx PCI SCSI Controller" from the 7800 Family Manager Diskette (OS/2 Warp Server 4.0 SMP, WIN NT 4.0, WIN95, NT3.51, Netware 3.1x & 4x), version 2.11 S3.
5. If you have installed the PC ServeRAID II, 3-L, or 3-H adapter, you will need the IBM ServeRAID DOS Configuration Diskette, version 3.01.or later.
6. Press F6 when the message "Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration" appears. Install either AIC7870.SYS or the IBM PC ServeRAID driver, IPSRAID.SYS, as appropriate.
7. For the integrated (onboard) Ethernet controller, use the AMD PC Net Controller driver shipped with the server on the IBM Netfinity and PC Server Ethernet Controller and IBM Netfinity 10/100 Fault Tolerant Device Driver Diskette, version 2.01 diskette.

NOTE: When you install the Windows NT 4.0 Server from the Windows NT CD, the AMDPCN.SYS driver is usually loaded by default for the onboard AMD Ethernet card. This process occurs if you do not use the Serverguide software to install the operating system. 8. Install the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3.

4.0 Detailed installation instructions
This section provides complete instructions for Windows NT Server 4.0 installation process.

4.1 Setting up the hardware

1. Unplug the server.
2. If on a rack model server, remove the top cover by loosening the thumbscrew at the back center of the cover and pushing the cover toward the rear of the server. If on a floor-standing (tower model) server, use the switch on the left center front of the server to release the cover and push the cover towards the rear of the server.
3. Install any desired additional disk controllers that are supported.

NOTE: When you install disk controllers, be aware that disk controllers placed in slot 5 (the slot nearest the processors) will be seen by Windows NT prior to the onboard Adaptec controller which will possibly affect your start order. It is recommended that disk controllers be placed in slot 5 only if you want to start Windows NT from a disk controller other than the onboard Adaptec controller.

4. For the initial installation, it is recommended that you install all the microprocessors you plan to use and remove all non-disk-controller adapters and devices that are not required to get the base operating system installed. (For example, if you plan to install multiple network adapters, install only one at this time. If you plan to use a tape drive or external SCSI devices, just disconnect them temporarily. After the operating system is starting without errors, add these devices one at a time. This procedure simplifies the installation process.

NOTE: If you install a second microprocessor after you install Windows NT Server 4.0, you must reinstall the operating system. When you install the additional microprocessor, be sure that a voltage regulator module (VRM) is placed in the VRM slot, which is located on the system board near the hard disk drive enclosure fan. To install the VRM, first release the tab holding the fan and slide the fan partially out of the server to make room. Insert the VRM into the VRM slot according to the instructions that came with the microprocessor. Reinsert the fan after you install the VRM. If you plan to use an external hard disk drive enclosure, the following instructions do not apply. Refer to the documentation provided with the external enclosure for proper setup, and proceed to "4.2 Setting up the BIOS".

5. Close the top or side cover that you removed in step 2 of this section.
6. Plug in the server.
7. Install the desired number of hot-swap hard disk drives into the hot-swap bays beginning at the top (rack model) or leftmost (tower model) bay and proceeding downward or to the right.

4.2 Setting up the BIOS
NOTE: This procedure assumes your server is starting from the default settings (which can be selected from the "Configuration/Setup Utility" menu).

1. Turn on the server and when the messages "Press F1 for Configuration/Setup and Press F2 for Diagnostics"
   appear, press F1 to enter the Configuration/Setup Utility.
2. When the "Configuration/Setup Utility" menu appears, select (move the highlighted bar to) Load Default Settings and press Enter. Press Enter again to return to the "Configuration/Setup Utility" menu.
3. Select Date and Time and verify the settings and press Esc to return to the "Configuration/Setup Utility" main menu.
   • Determine the version of BIOS and Service Processor running on your server.
     • Highlight the menu option System Information and press Enter.
     • Select Product Data and press Enter. The Flash EEPROM Revision Level field contains the BIOS version. The numbers in position 5, 6, and 7 of the level are the current BIOS level. For example, MOKT21AUS is BIOS level 21A, U.S. English.
     • The SP ROM Build Level field contains the Service Processor version. The numbers in positions 5, 6, and 7 of the Build Level are the current Service Processor level. For example, MOET33A is Service Processor Level 33.
     • Press Esc twice to return to the "Configuration/Setup Utility" menu.
     • At another computer, click here to view the latest level of BIOS and Service Processor Flash. If you determine that neither your BIOS nor your Service Processor needs to be updated, continue to step 5.
   • If your BIOS needs to be updated:
     • Download the appropriate image at the other computer and build the diskette image by running the .EXE file. Answer Y on the last page of the licensing agreement. The current diskette image is 33L3600.EXE and is labeled IBM Netfinity 5000 Flash BIOS Update Diskette v1.00.
     • Exit Setup and save the settings.
     • Start (boot) with the BIOS diskette in the server and answer the question appropriately. After the BIOS update is complete, you might receive an "162 Configuration has changed" error on startup; ignore this message. Setup will start and you can continue by returning to step 2 at the beginning of "Section 4.2". If you do not see the "162 Configuration has changed" message at startup, you will need to press F1 when the F1/F2 messages appear. This will enable you to enter the "Setup/Configuration Utility".
   • If your Service Processor needs to be updated:
     • Download the appropriate image at the other computer and build the diskette image by running the .EXE file. Answer Y on the last page of the licensing agreement. The current diskette image is 36L9883.EXE and is labeled IBM Netfinity Advanced System Management Processor Device Driver Diskette, version 1.03.
     • Exit Setup and save the settings if you have not already done so.
     • Start (boot) with the Service Processor diskette in the server and press Enter when you are prompted. When the system returns to the command prompt, the update is complete and the server can be restarted. The Service Processor update normally takes between 5 and 10 minutes to complete.
     • Select Start Options and press Enter.
     • Verify and change if necessary the Startup Device sequence to match the following list.

     First Startup Device	Diskette 0
     Second Startup Device	Hard Disk 0
     Third Startup Device	Disabled
     Fourth Startup Device	Disabled

     • Press Esc to return to the "Main Menu".
     • Select Save Settings on the "Configuration/Setup Utility" window and press Enter twice. Select Exit Setup and select Yes, exit the Setup Utility.
     • The server will restart. If you do not receive a "162 Configuration Change has occurred" message during POST, continue to the next section. If you do receive a "162 Configuration Change has Occurred" message during POST, press Enter to select Continue and press Enter again. At the "Diagnostic/Setup Utility" window, press Esc and press Enter to select Yes, save and exit the Setup Utility.

NOTE: If you have added the PC ServeRAID II, 3-L, or 3-H adapter, see "Appendix A" for hard disk drive configuration and operating system installation instructions. Otherwise, proceed to "Section 4.3".

4.3 Configuring hard disk drives using the integrated SCSI controller

1. Start the server and press Ctrl A when you are prompted.
2. Choose the appropriate Bus:Device:Channel for the drives that are installed, and press Enter. If you choose a channel that has no drives, you can press Esc to return to the selection menu.

NOTE: Bus 00: Device 06: Channel B is the default channel for the built-in SCSI backplane.

3. Select Configure/View Host Adapter Settings, and press Enter.
4. Select SCSI Device Configuration.
5. For Device IDs of hard disk drives and other startable (bootable) devices, make sure the "Send Start Unit" Command is set to Yes. SCSI ID 0 is the leftmost (or top) SCSI device. Devices are numbered from 0 to 4 for the built-in SCSI backplane.
6. Press Esc once to return to the "Configuration" panel.
7. Select Boot Device Options, and press Enter.
8. Verify that the SCSI Boot Channel and Boot SCSI ID match the SCSI channel and drive ID that you plan to use for the boot partition.

NOTE: The Netfinity 5000 assigns SCSI IDs from left to right (tower model) or top to bottom (rack model) starting at 0 and proceeding to 4.

9. Press Esc twice to confirm the changes that you made.
10. Select SCSI Disk Utilities.
11. Format each hard disk drive individually by pressing Enter while it is highlighted, selecting Format Disk, and then responding Yes twice. The formatting process might take some time.
12. When the formatting process complete message appears, press Esc to continue.
13. Press Esc twice to return to the "Main Menu".
14. Move the highlighted bar to Yes at the Exit Utility? panel, and press Enter.
15. Do not press any key to restart the server.

4.4 Running the Windows NT Server 4.0 installation program using the integrated SCSI controller

1. Insert the diskette labeled "Windows NT Server Setup Disk 1" into the diskette drive, insert the "Windows NT Server 4.0 CD" into the CD-ROM drive, and press any key to restart the server.

NOTE: If after you select the Adaptec driver you receive a message stating that "A hard drive is not present in your server", please follow the steps in "Section 4.2" to set the server boot sequence to boot first from the diskette drive instead of the default option of CD-ROM.

2. When you are prompted, remove the "Windows NT Server Setup Disk 1", insert the "Windows NT Server Setup Disk 2", and press Enter.
3. Press Enter at the "'Welcome to Setup" panel to begin the installation process.
4. Press Enter at the "Windows NT Server Setup" panel to allow Windows NT to detect mass storage devices in the server.
5. When you are prompted, remove "Disk 2", insert "Windows NT Server Setup Disk 3", and press Enter.
6. You will receive a message that Setup has recognized the following mass storage devices in your computer IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/PCI IDE Controller.
7. Press S to specify additional devices.
8. Press Enter to select the Other option.
9. Insert the 7800 Family Manager Diskette (OS/2 Warp Server 4.0 SMP, WIN NT 4.0, WIN 95, NT3.51, Netware 3.1x & 4x), version 2.11 S3 into the diskette drive and press Enter to continue.
10. When the devices are listed, select Adaptec AHA-290x/291x/294x/4944 or AIC-78xx PCI SCSI Controller (NT 4.0). Press Enter.
11. When the "Windows NT Server Setup" panel appears again, press Enter to continue.
12. Reinsert the "Windows NT Server Setup Disk 3" diskette when you are prompted and press Enter.

NOTE: If you receive the message "Setup has determined that one or more of your hard disks has more than 1024 cylinders", press Enter and continue. Both the Adaptec and the ServeRAID adapter utilize extended DOS translation to accommodate this configuration.

13. At the next panel, a message stating "Setup has determined that your computers startup hard disk is new or has been erased" will appear. Press C to continue setup.
14. Press Page Down to read the license agreement. After you have finished reading the license agreement, press F8 to agree and continue the installation process.
15. At the next panel, a message stating "Setup has determined that your computer contains the following hardware and software components" will appear. Press Enter to verify that the above list matches your computer.
16. Because of limitations on partition sizes in Windows NT, you must partition your hard disk drive for an installation partition that is 4095MB or less. On the next panel, press C to create partition.
17. Type a number less than 4095MB in the blank and press Enter. The Windows NT Server requires approximately 500MB to install. If you are planning to put Microsoft BackOffice or other application software on the server, and you plan to place these applications on the same partition as your server software, you will need to increase this amount accordingly.
18. Press the arrow keys to move to the Unpartitioned space and press C to create additional partitions. All partitions other than the boot partition are not limited to 4095 MB and may be up to the disk limit size for Windows NT server.
19. Repeat step 18 until all partitions are configured.
20. When all partitions are configured, select the drive where you want Windows NT installed and press Enter to continue the installation process.
21. For the C partition, Windows NT will ask how if you want the partitions formatted. Select FAT or NTFS file system and press Enter. Setup will format the drives. Depending on the size and type of drives, this might take from 1 to 20 minutes per drive.
22. Setup will then ask you to specify an installation directory. The default is \WINNT. Enter your choice and press Enter to continue.
23. Press Enter to allow Setup to examine your hard disk(s) for corruption.
24. Setup then copies files to your hard disk.
25. Setup will prompt you for the Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Set v2.11 for Windows NT 4.0. Insert the "7800 Family Manager Set for OS/2 and WIN NT, Diskette 1 of 2" diskette into the diskette drive and press Enter.
26. After the file copy has completed, a message stating "This portion of Setup has completed successfully" will appear. Remove the diskette from the diskette drive and press Enter to restart the server and continue to phase 2 of the installation process. Do not remove the CD-ROM from the drive, as it will be needed at the beginning of the restart cycle and will keep you from being prompted to reinsert it.
27. When the server restarts, you might receive a Virus Warning message; this message is normal, as the boot record of the server has been changed. Select Change is expected, and press Enter.
28. After a brief file copy, the Windows NT Setup Wizard will appear. Select Next to gather information about your computer.
29. Type your name and organization and select Next.
30. Type your CD Key that is located on the back of the Windows NT Server CD jewel case, and press Enter.
31. Depending on the license agreement between your organization and Microsoft, you will next select the Per Server or Per Seat option. If you select Per Server, type the number of licenses you have in the blank provided. Select Next.

NOTE: If you select Per Seat,you will not be able to change it to Per Server at a later time. "Per Server" does not have this limitation.

32. Type the Name of your computer and select Next. This name must be unique in the entire network.

NOTE: In the next step, you will be prompted for the Server Type. The only way to change Server Type is to repeat this installation process. Server types include the following controllers:

• Primary Domain Controller (PDC) (This server tracks changes made to accounts of all the computers on the network. Only one is allowed per domain.)
• Backup Domain Controller (BDC) (This server acts as a backup to the PDC. Multiple BDCs are allowed per domain.)
• Stand Alone Server (This server is one that serves as neither a PDC nor BDC.)

33. Select the Server Type and select Next.
34. If you selected either "Primary Domain Controller" or "Stand Alone Server", type the administrator account password, type it again for verification, and select Next. Otherwise, continue with step 35.
35. On the Emergency Repair Disk panel,select Yes, create an emergency repair disk (recommended) and select Next. You will be asked later for a diskette to build the emergency repair diskette. After Windows NT finishes building the emergency repair diskette, the diskette should be kept in a safe place near the server.
36. Choose the components from the "Select Components" menu that you want to install. When you are finished, select Next to continue.
37. Windows NT Setup will reappear with 2) Installing Windows NT Networking highlighted. Select Next to continue.
38. On the next panel, select how this computer is connected to the network, and select Next to continue.

NOTE: These installation instructions cover only the option Wired to the network.

39. The next panel offers an option to install Microsoft Internet Information Server. If you use the default, then you must install "TCP/IP protocol" on the "Protocol Options" panel. Once your selection is made, select Next to continue.
40. If you are using the integrated Ethernet port, click Select from the list. If you are not using the integrated Ethernet port, install your adapter as necessary and continue to step 44.
41. Insert the IBM 10/100 Fault Tolerant Device Driver Diskette, version 2.01 (or later), in the diskette drive and click Have Disk.
42. Type A:\NT for the location of the driver, and press Enter.
43. Accept AMD PCNET Family Ethernet Adapter, and press Enter twice.
44. Select Network Protocols to install, and select Next when you are finished. If you selected "Microsoft Internet Information Server", the TCP/IP option will be selected but grayed out on the Select the networking protocols panel. If you plan to connect to NetWare servers, you will need to check the NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport. If you plan to connect to OS/2 Warp Server servers or Windows NT v3.51 servers, you will need to check the NetBEUI Protocol option. Once your selections are complete, select Next to continue.
45. On the next panel, choose the networking services that you want to install. If you want to install additional services, select Select from list and add the appropriate services. When you are finished selecting services, select Next to continue.
46. At this point, all selections for Windows NT Networking services are complete. If you want to make changes to any selections, select Back and back up to the appropriate panel. Otherwise, select Next to install the selected components.
47. During this phase of the installation process, you might be presented with one or more panels requesting information about the adapters you have previously selected. Make the appropriate selections and continue. If you did not select the "TCP/IP protocol", continue with step 50.
48. If you selected the "TCP/IP protocol", the "TCP/IP Setup" panel appears. If you use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to dynamically assign TCP/IP addresses that are installed in your network, click Yes and continue to step 50. Otherwise, configure your TCP/IP settings by clicking No and continuing to step 49.
49. Configure TCP/IP by typing an IP address and default gateway (router). Depending on your network configuration, you might also have to configure DNS, WINS Addressing, and/or DHCP Relay. Once completed, click OK to continue.
50. On this panel, disable any network bindings that you do not wish to install. Select Next to Continue.
51. Verify your network settings by selecting Back or start the network by selecting Next.

NOTE: If you selected "Backup Domain Controller", you will have to know an administrator name and password to be able to connect to the proper domain. If you selected "Primary Domain", you will be prompted for the domain name that this domain controller will manage. Type your domain name in the blank provided and select Next to continue.

52. When the "Windows NT Setup" panel reappears, option 3 "Finishing Setup" is highlighted. Click Finish to move to the final phase of the installation process.
53. On the next panel, choose the correct time zone from the pulldown box. If your location does not recognize daylight savings time, uncheck the option "Automatically adjust clock" for daylight saving changes.
54. Click the Date and Time tab and verify that the time and date are correct, adjust the date and time if it is necessary.
55. Click Close to continue the installation process.
56. At the "Detected Display" panel, click OK. The device driver support for the onboard S3 TRIO 64V2 chip will be installed.

Warning: Be sure your display monitor is capable of handling the settings displayed on the settings page. If your monitor supports only certain frequencies and resolutions, make sure your selected settings match. If you are unsure about what frequencies and resolutions your monitor supports, select 640x480, 60Hz, and 256 colors as your default settings.

57. Click Test, and answer the question, "Did you see the test bit map properly?".
58. Click OK in the section that begins "To save the settings..."
59. In the "Display Properties" window, click OK.
60. When you are prompted, insert the diskette labeled "Emergency Repair Diskette" into the diskette drive, and press Enter to create an "Emergency Repair Diskette".
61. Remove the diskette and the CD-ROM and click the Restart Server icon to restart the server. The installation process is now complete.
62. Continue to "Appendix B to install Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3".

Appendix A: Installing Windows NT Server 4.0 using the PC ServeRAID II, 3-L, or 3-H adapter
Appendix A.1 Configuring arrays using the PC ServeRAID II, 3-L, or 3-H adapter

1. If you do not need to update the BIOS for your PC ServeRAID II, 3-L, or 3-H adapter, continue to step 5.
2. Insert the IBM ServeRAID BIOS Firmware Update Diskette 1, version 3.01 (or later) into the diskette drive and restart the server.
3. At the "Startup" Menu, select option 1 ServeRAID, BIOS and Firmware update, and press Enter. The ServeRAID BIOS and Firmware will then be updated.
4. After a successful completion of BIOS and Firmware updates, remove the diskette from the diskette drive and proceed to step 5.
5. Insert the IBM ServeRAID DOS Configuration Diskette, version 3.01 (or later) in the diskette drive and restart the server. During the initial startup, an error message that is similar to the following message might be encountered "Following drives not responding (oldstate:newstate:ch:bay) (ONL:DDD:2:1)(ONL:DDD:2:2) Identifiers for the following drives do not match configuration ..." Press F5 - Update adapter configuration - to exclude non-responding drives. The drives will be set up later in this section to match your configuration.
6. On the "Main Menu", move the highlighted bar to 3. EZ-RAID Configuration, and press Enter.
7. Move the highlighted bar to Yes, and press Enter.
8. Press Enter to return to the "Main Menu".
9. Move the highlighted bar to 7. Advanced Functions, and press Enter.
10. Move the highlighted bar to 2. Back up IPS ServeRAID Config, and press Enter.
11. Verify that the IBM ServeRAID DOS Configuration Diskette is not write-protected.
12. Type the file name that you wish to save the configuration as, or press Enter to accept the default, then select Yes to confirm.
13. Press any key to return to the "Advanced Functions" menu. Press Esc to return to the "Main Menu".
14. Press Esc followed by Enter to exit the utility and ignore the message to back up the RAID configuration. Again, confirm with a Yes.
15. Do not press Ctrl Alt Del. Proceed to the next section to continue the installation process.

Appendix A.2 Running the Windows NT Server 4.0 installation program using the ServeRAID II adapter
NOTE: The procedure outlined in steps 1 through 8 disables the integrated Adaptec controllers startup capability. You can still access devices attached to it under a Network Operating System with the correct device drivers loaded. When you install disk controllers, be aware that disk controllers inserted in slot 5 (the slot nearest the processors) will be seen by Windows NT prior to the onboard Adaptec controller, possibly affecting your start order. It is recommended that disk controllers be placed in slot 5 only if you want to start Windows NT from a disk controller other than the onboard Adaptec controller.

1. Restart the server. During startup, press Ctrl A when you are prompted by the message. Press CtrlA for "SCSISelect(tm) Utility!".

NOTE: It is not necessary to repeat steps 2 through 7 for the second channel on the onboard Adaptec disk controller.

2. Select the first Bus:Device:Channel in the list, and press Enter.
3. Select Configure/View Host Adapter Settings, and press Enter.
4. Select Advanced Configuration Options and press Enter.
5. Select Host Adapter BIOS (Config Utility Reserves BIOS Space), and press Enter. Select Disabled, and press Enter.
6. Press Esc twice, then select Yes to confirm the changes made.
7. Press Esc once more to return to the Bus:Device:Channel selection menu.
8. Press Esc once and then select Yes to exit the "SCSISelect(tm) Utility".
9. Insert the diskette labeled "Windows NT Server Setup Boot Disk" and the "Windows NT Server 4.0 CD" into the CD-ROM drive and restart the server.
10. When you are prompted, remove the boot diskette, insert the "Windows NT Server Setup Disk 2", and press Enter.
11. When the "Windows NT Server Setup" panel "Welcome to Setup" appears, press Enter.
12. At the "Windows NT Server Setup" panel which shows a list of mass storage devices, press Enter.
13. When you are prompted, remove "Disk 2", insert the "Windows NT Server Setup Disk 3", and press Enter.
14. You will receive a message stating "Setup has recognized the following mass storage devices in your computer: IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/PCI IDE Controller".
15. Press S to specify additional devices.
16. Press Enter to select the Other option.
17. Insert the IBM ServeRAID Device Driver Diskette, version 3.01 (or later) into the diskette drive, and press Enter to continue.
18. When the device "IBM ServeRAID Adapter" is listed, press Enter.
19. When the "Windows NT Server Setup" panel reappears, press Enter to continue.
20. When you are prompted, insert the "Windows NT Server Setup Disk 3" into the diskette drive and press Enter.
21. At the next panel, a message stating "Setup has determined that your computers startup hard disk is new or has been erased" will appear. Press C to continue setup.
22. Press Page down to read the license agreement. After you have finished reading the license agreement, press F8 I agree to agree and continue the installation process.
23. At the next panel, a message stating "Setup has determined that your computer contains the following hardware and software components" will appear. Press Enter to confirm that the above list matches my computer.
24. Because of limitations on partition sizes in Windows NT, you must partition your hard disk drive for an installation partition that is 4095MB or less. On the next panel, press C to Create Partition.
25. Type a number less than 4095MB in the blank and press Enter. Windows NT Server requires approximately 500MB to install. If you are planning to put Microsoft BackOffice or other application software on the server, and plan to place these applications on the same partition as your server software, you will need to increase this amount accordingly.
26. Press the arrow keys to move to the Unpartitioned space and press C to create additional partitions. All partitions other than the boot partition are not limited to 4095 MB and may be up to the disk limit size for Windows NT server.
27. Repeat step 26 until all partitions are configured.
28. When all partitions are configured, move the highlighted bar to the drive where you want Windows NT installed and press Enter to continue the installation process.
29. For the C: partition, Windows NT will ask how you want the partition formatted. Make a selection and press Enter. Setup will format the drives. Depending on the size and type of drives, this might take from 1 to 20 minutes per drive.
30. Setup will then ask you to specify an installation directory. The default is C:\WINNT. Type your choice, and press Enter to continue.
31. When you are prompted, "Setup" will now examine your hard disk(s) for corruption. Press Enter.
32. After the check for corruption has finished, Setup will copy files to your hard disk.
33. Setup will prompt you for the "IBM ServeRAID Adapter Disk". Insert the IBM ServeRAID Device Driver Diskette, version 3.01 (or later) into the diskette drive and press Enter.
34. After the file copy has completed, a message stating "This portion of Setup has completed successfully" will appear. Remove the diskette from the diskette drive, press Enter to restart the server, and continue to phase 2 of the installation process. Do not remove the CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive, as it will be needed at the beginning of the restart cycle and will keep you from being prompted to reinsert it.
35. Proceed to step 27 in Section "4.4 Running the Windows NT Server 4.0 installation program using the Integrated SCSI Controller" to complete installation.

Appendix B: Installing Service Pack 3 on Windows NT Server 4.0
NOTE: You will need about 75MB of free disk space to unpack the Service Pack.

1. Insert the "ServerGuide FixPak CD" that contains the "Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 3" into the CD drive, or download the Service Pack onto your hard disk drive. Be sure to select the 128-bit version if you are using the US/Canadian version of Windows NT).
2. Locate nt4sp3_i.exe on the CD, then run the file from a command prompt or from a Windows NT Explorer panel.
3. Press Enter on the nt4sp3_i.exe Service Pack Setup panel to begin the installation process.
4. Agree to the license and press Enter.
5. Specify whether to create an Uninstall directory, and then press Enter twice to continue.
6. The Service Pack is then copied to your server.
7. If the message asking if you want to replace C:\winnt\system32\SCHANNEL.DLL appears, select Replace.
8. After the installation process is complete, click OK to restart the server.
