Use these instructions to install Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Terminal Server Edition and Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 on a hard disk drive.

1.0 What you will need
Follow the network operating system (NOS) instructions provided in this document in sequential order unless you are instructed differently. The windows and messages might differ from those in this document. Throughout this document the term select is used to denote the use of the arrow keys to highlight a menu selection.

  1. If you have a supported hard disk drive, view a list of the applicable options and part numbers for your server.
  2. Check the BIOS version that is currently installed on your system; version 1.01 or higher is required.
  3. Download the latest BIOS update.

2.0 Where to download drivers and files

3.0 Installation Instructions
Complete the following procedures to install Windows NT 4.0 Server, Terminal Server Edition and Service Pack 6.

  1. Insert the Windows NT Server 4.0 CD-ROM into the designated drive and set the power on switch to the On position. Press the Select button to connect the console (monitor, keyboard, and mouse) to the server. The system automatically enters the Windows NT Setup, examines the server for components, and the Welcome to Setup window appears.
  2. From the Welcome to Setup window, press Enter. The system develops a list of recognized hardware.
  3. Press Enter to accept the recognized hardware in the list.
  4. If the system develops a window which discusses the number of cylinders on the hard disk drive and the possible need for additional software, press Enter to continue.
  5. If the system develops a window which indicates the hard disk drive is empty or the operating system is invalid or corrupted, press C to continue.
  6. Read and accept the license agreement and page down to the end and press F8.
  7. When the system develops a new list of the hardware and software components detected, press Enter to accept the list. You will address specific hardware and software information later in this procedure.
  8. Partition and format the hard disk drive as desired.
  9. Remove the Windows NT Server CD-ROM when you are directed and press Enter to restart the system.
  10. Re-insert the Windows NT Server CD-ROM when you are requested.
  11. When you search for a network adapter, the system develops a new window. Specify the network information as requested:
    • Click Select from List button.
    • Click the Have Disk button.
    • Remove the Windows NT Server 4.0 CD-ROM and insert the Netfinity 4000R System CD-ROM.
    • In the box labeled "Copy manufacturer's files from", type the path to the Ethernet driver as d:\ethernet (where d is the drive letter for the CD-ROM.) Click OK.
    • Select the IBM 10/100 Ethernet PCI adapter from the list of drivers on the CD-ROM. Click OK.
  12. The program takes you through configuring network protocols and services, then it copies the file from the Netfinity 4000R System CD-ROM.
  13. When the Copy Error window opens, complete the following steps (this event is a normal event when you install drivers not included on the Windows NT Server 4.0 CD-ROM):
    • Make sure the box labeled Copy files from contains the path D:\I386.
    • Remove the Netfinity 4000R System CD-ROM and reinsert the Windows NT Server 4.0 CD-ROM.
    • Click the Skip File button. (The system will copy all of the required files from the Windows NT Server 4.0 CD-ROM.)
  14. Specify the network information as requested.
  15. When the Display Settings window appears, accept the standard settings. You will address the video information later in this procedure.
  16. Follow the instructions to remove the Windows NT Server 4.0 CD-ROM and restart the system.
  17. When the system has restarted completely and the Windows NT desktop appears, insert the Netfinity 4000R System CD-ROM.
  18. With the cursor on the desktop background, right-click the mouse. Click Properties from the menu.
  19. From the Display Properties window, complete the following steps:
    • Click the Settings tab.
    • Click the Display Type button.
    • Click the Change button.
    • Click the Have Disk button.
    • In the box labeled "Copy manufacturer's files from", type the path to the display driver as d:\video (where d is the drive letter for the CD-ROM.) Click OK.
    • Select Chips Video Accelerator (65545/48/50/54/55 68554 69000) from the list of drivers on the CD-ROM. Click OK and click Close. When you are asked if you want to restart the system now, click No. You will restart the system later.
  20. From the Windows NT desktop, click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> SCSI Adapters.
  21. From the SCSI Drivers window, complete the following steps:
    • Click the Drivers tab.
    • Click the Add button.
    • Click the Have Disk button.
    • In the input box labeled "Copy manufacturer's files from", type the path to the SCSI driver as d:\scsi\adap2940 (where d is the drive letter for the CD-ROM.) Click OK.
    • Select Adaptec AHA290x/291x/294x/394x/4944/AIC78xx PCI SCSI Controller (NT 4.0) from the list of drivers on the CD-ROM. Click OK.
    • When the message stating that a "driver is already installed" appears, click the New button.
    • Type the drive and path to the SCSI driver again. Click Continue.
  22. After the driver has been copied, remove the Netfinity 4000R System CD-ROM and click the Yes button to restart the system.
  23. When the system restarts and the "New graphics driver has been detected" message appears, click OK.
  24. In the Display Properties window, set the properties for your display and click the Test button to test the new properties.
  25. Click the Apply button to see the results. Change the properties if you need to, or click OK to accept the properties.
  26. Install the Windows NT Service Pack 6 by using the instructions from the Microsoft Corporation.
  27. Restart the system for the changes to take effect.
  28. Insert the MetaFrame version 1.8 CD-ROM and select MetaFrame Setup from the list of menu options.
  29. Refer to the MetaFrame Installation Guide for further information and to complete the installation and setup.
  30. Install any additional software for your use, such as system administrative, maintenance software or application programs. Your server is ready for use.
