3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users
Insert the CD labeled NetWare 5 Operating System and start (boot) the system to run the installation program.
4.0 Setting up the hardware for NOS installation
Remove the top panel by loosening the thumbscrews at the back upper corners of the server. Remove the top access panel by pushing it toward the rear of the system.
For the initial installation, install all of the microprocessors that you plan to use, and remove all adapters and devices that are not required to get the base operating system installed. (For example, if you are installing multiple network adapters, only install one now. If you are using a tape drive or external SCSI devices, disconnect them temporarily.) After the operating system starts without errors, add these devices one at a time. This procedure simplifies the installation process.
NOTE : When you install additional microprocessors, be sure that a microprocessor or a terminator card is in slot 4. If you plan to use an external DASD enclosure, the following instructions do not apply. Refer to the documentation provided with the external enclosure for the correct setup. Continue to reference 4.2 Setting up the BIOS.
3. Close the top panel.
4. Install the desired number of hot-swap hard disk drives into the hot-swap bays beginning at the top bay and proceeding downward.
4.1 Setting up the BIOS
Power on the server and when the IBM logo appears, press F1 to enter Configuration/Setup .
When the Configuration/Setup Utility menu appears, move the highlighted selection to Load Default Settings and press Enter . Press Enter again to return to the Configuration/Setup Utility menu.
Click here to verify that you are at the latest level of BIOS .
Determine the version of BIOS running on your server by highlighting the menu option System Information, select Product Data , and press Enter . The Flash EEPROM Revision Level field contains the BIOS version. The numbers in position 5, 6, and 7 of the level represent the current BIOS level. For example, OSJT23AUS is BIOS level 23A, U.S. English.
Press Esc twice to return to the Configuration Utility menu. If you determine that your BIOS does not need to be updated, skip to step 8.
If your BIOS needs to be updated, download the appropriate image and build the diskette image by running the .exe file. Answer Y on the last page of the licensing agreement. The current diskette image is V1.29A.IMG and is labeled Netfinity 1000/3000 Flash BIOS Update Diskette version 1.29. Exit Setup and save the settings.
Start (boot) with the BIOS diskette in the server and answer the question appropriately. After the BIOS update is complete, you might receive a "162 Configuration has changed" error on startup (boot); ignore this message. Setup will start and you can continue with step 8.
NOTE: If you do not see the "162 Configuration has changed" message at startup (boot) time, press F1 when the IBM logo appears to enter Setup .
8. Move the highlighted selection to Start Options and press Enter .
9. Verify that the Startup Options are set to the following (change if necessary):
First Startup Device - Diskette 0
Second Startup Device - CD-ROM
Third Startup Device - Hard Disk 0
Fourth Startup Device - Disabled
10.Press Esc to return to the main menu.
11.Select Save Settings on the Configuration/Setup Utility window, press Enter twice, select Exit Setup , and select Yes to exit the Setup Utility .
12.The server will restart. If you receive a "162 Configuration Change has Occurred" message during post, press Enter to select Continue and press Enter again. At the Diagnostic/Setup Utility window, press Esc and press Enter to select Yes, save and exit the Setup Utility .
4.2 Installing NetWare 4.2 using the integrated SCSI controller
DOS installation

After installing DOS, restart the server. If you receive a message "Virus Warning", ignore it and select Change is expected .
Loading the IDE CD-ROM Device Driver
Insert the IDE CD-ROM Support Package diskette and type A:\Uinstall .
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Using a standard text editor, determine if the following lines are contained within the CONFIG.SYS on C:. If they are, type REM at the beginning of each line:
DOS=HIGH
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE
NOTE : Since D is the default drive letter for the CD-ROM drive, D: is used in all of the following examples to indicate the CD-ROM drive. In case you have chosen to change the default drive letter assignment, substitute the drive letter you have chosen for the D: in these examples.
NetWare 4.2 software installation
Restart the server and insert the NetWare 4.2 Operating System CD into the CD-ROM drive. Move to the CD-ROM drive letter D: and type Install .
Select the language you want to install.
Read through the licensing terms and press Enter as necessary.
From the Choose the product you want to install window, select NetWare 4.2 .

Set maximum concurrent disk cache writes=2000
11.Press F10 to save and continue.
12.Specify whether or not you wish to add commands to AUTOEXEC.BAT to load SERVER.EXE (automatically load NetWare upon server startup) and press Enter . The default is No. If you choose to add the commands, specify the path to AUTOEXEC.BAT and press Enter .
13.NetWare now scans for available disk controller drivers. Press Enter when the following message is displayed:
"Install found the following hardware but found more then one driver supporting this hardware. PCI.8086.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xx."
14.Select Select additional driver or modify selected Disk/Lan drivers .
15.Press Enter to select Network (Lan) drivers.
16.Press Insert to install an unlisted device driver.

29.Press Enter at the Protocol Options menu to continue the installation using only IPX, or if you want to add protocols other than IPX, at the Protocol Selection window highlight View/Modify Protocol Settings , and press Enter twice.
NOTE : To install additional protocols, you need to supply additional information at the Protocol Settings window and then press Esc to return to the Protocol Selection window. Select Continue with installation when the protocol configuration is complete. If you receive a message stating that the CDROM.NLM did not load in time, this message is normal because the NW42 volume on the CD-ROM is very large. the installation process will continue as soon as the CD volume mounts.
