Installing IBM InfoSphere Information Server Pack for SAP Applications 8.2 and 8.1

Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

Refer to the following information to install or remove the IBM InfoSphere Information Server Pack for SAP Applications 8.2 and 8.1

Content

Before you begin

  1. Review the hardware and software requirements for the Pack: version 8.2, version 8.1
  2. Review the authorization requirements and security best practices
  3. Review the references, known issues and limitations
  4. Install the prerequisite patches and libraries  (including SAP SDKs)
  5. Configure the SAP dispatch/gateway service and Review the port ranges and requirements
  6. Install the latest version of the InfoSphere Information Server Update Installer on the installation image of InfoSphere Information Server
  7. Back up IBM InfoSphere Information Server, following these links for specific versions: 11.7, 11.5, 11.3
  8. Ensure that you have administrative privileges to install the Pack
  9. If you used an earlier version of the Pack, export your existing jobs and configuration settings before you install the new version.

IMPORTANT

  • Make sure you have the required SAP RFC SDK libraries in place before beginning the installation (documented at point 3 above).
  • You need to use the full Information Server suite installation image which you originally used to install IS (including the Fixpack level). Even if you used a patch/update type installer to install an IS Fixpack, you now need the corresponding full installation image in order to install additional Products. For example to install the Pack on IS 11.7.1.1 (for which FP1 was applied as patch/update), use the full image IS 11.7.1.1.
Note: IS Service Packs (SP) usually do not offer a full installation image. Use the full image available prior to the SP. For example to install the Pack on IS 11.7.0.2 SP1 use the full image IS 11.7.0.2
  • Do not install the Pack along with Information Server. Make sure that Information Server is completely installed before you copy the Pack payload in to the is-suite/payloads directory.
  • The recommended tier installation order is Services, Engine, Client.

IMPORTANT
The instructions below apply to the Full Installer (to be used for new installations).
Pack version 8.2.0.3/8.2.0.2/8.2.0.1/8.1.0.1 (Fixpack 1) also offer an Update Installer option (patch type), to be applied over a previous version 8.2.0.0/8.1.0.0 installation only. The installation instructions for the patch installers are included as README in the patch archives. If using the update installer, do not uninstall the existing 8.2.0.0/8.1.0.0 version first, just install the new version as you would install any patch.

Upgrade scenarios

  • Important: Before installing Full Installer, uninstall the previous version from both server and client computers and remove the is-suite/payloads/ISPackForSAP directory
  • For general information on migrating jobs from older Pack versions, see this document .

Installing the InfoSphere Data Architect components: InfoSphere Rapid Modeler and Rapid Generator for SAP Applications

IMPORTANT
To use InfoSphere Data Architect on a system where the engine tier of Information Server 11.3 is already installed, download and install the IBM Installation Manager version 1.7 prior to installing InfoSphere Data Architect. This prevents a version conflict between the InfoSphere Data Architect installer and the Information Server installation.

To download IBM Installation Manager version 1.7, click the following link:  Download IBM Installation Manager, version 1.7

Client tier installation

  1. Verify there is no RMRG component for "IBM InfoSphere Information Server Pack for SAP Applications" previously installed in IDA using IBM Installation Manager. Note the RMRG installer available with Pack version 8.0 and earlier uses Installation Manager while the RMRG installer in Pack version 8.0.0.1 and 8.0.0.2 is based on Eclipse Software site.
If needed, uninstall the existing application using IBM Installation Manager.
  2. Place the ISPackForSAP_RMRG.zip file available in the component ISPackForSAP_RMRG in the installation media (for Windows only) to a temporary directory
  3. Open IDA application then click on Help -> Install New Software
  4. In “Install” window click on “Add”
  5. Click on “Archive”. Browse to the ISPackForSAP_RMRG.zip file placed at temporary location
  6. Un-check “Group items by category” if you can’t see the items in the grid
  7. Click on "Select All" then click on Next -> Next. Accept the terms of license agreement
  8. Click on "Finish", then OK
  9. Restart IDA

Client tier post-installation instructions

Associate the Information Server client tier installation with your InfoSphere Data Architect installation by creating a link file as follows:

  1. In the InfoSphere Data Architect installation directory, create a folder named "links", e.g.:
C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\IDA8.5.0\links (replace with your actual IDA installation folder)
  2. Navigate to the new "links" directory
  3. Create a plain text file named com.ibm.iis.client_feature.link with the following content:
path=<Information Server client tier installation path>/ASBNode
    e.g. path=C:/IBM/InformationServer/ASBNode
Make sure to use the slash character "/" as the path separator.

Services tier installation

The services tier for Rapid Modeler and Generator is installed with the services tier of the Pack.

To check if the services tier was installed successfully, open the following URL in a browser:
https://<ISDomainName>:<ISDomainPort>/cwrapidgenerator/JobGenerator

Where <ISDomainName> is the domain name of the InfoSphere Information Server and <ISDomainPort> is the HTTPS port number of InfoSphere Information Server. The default port number is 9443.

Removing the InfoSphere Data Architect components: InfoSphere Rapid Modeler and Rapid Generator for SAP Applications

To remove the IDA components follow these steps:

  1. Open IDA and click on Help -> Install New Software
  2. Click on "What is already installed" hyperlink
  3. In the "Installed software" tab, select the SAP Pack component you want to uninstall, then click on the button "Uninstall"
  4. After successful uninstall, restart IDA

Troubleshooting the Pack installation

If the installation fails or in case components appear to be missing after the installation, try reinstalling. Before reinstall, delete the folder <IS_HOME>/_uninstall/inprogress if it exists (for more details see technote 1962120 ).
If this does not help, check the installation logs for error messages that may suggest the cause. If you need further assistance, open a Support case and provide the installation logs from all applicable tiers (Engine, Client, Services). The log file locations are described in the online documentation .
