Installing IBM High Availability Solution under Microsoft Windows NT - PC Server 720

How To

Summary

Follow the steps described in this document to install IBM High Availability Solution under Microsoft Windows NT on a PC Server 720.

Steps

Summary
Here are some tips to help install the IBM High Availability Solution (Vinca Software) and Windows NT.

1. Be sure that you have created a userid under NT which will become the Vinca Service ID. Vinca is a NT service therefore it requires an associated Userid to start.

2. NETWORK LINK WOULD NOT CONNECT problem: (VINCA service not started)
Be sure that you go into NT (main ->control panel ->services)
Double click on the Vinca Standy Manager entry --- click on OK
This process activates the userid/service to work as a service to startup at boot time (I think we had to shutdown and reboot at this time)

3. In the PC Server 720 we made sure that we used PCI slots 6 & 7 for our NIC cards primarily because these slots are on the primary PCI bus and we wanted to avoid going through any 'bus bridges.'

4. Since we used the PCI bus for our NIC cards we also had to go back and update the 720 config to give the PCI bus higher priority than the MCA bus. The 720 ships with the MCA bus at a higher performance priority. (you do this with a modified reference diskette)
