Troubleshooting
Problem
The base version of IBM ECM CMIS 3.0.7, and the CMIS 3.0.7 iFixes 001 through 013, use an installer that does not recognize the Windows 2025 operating system. This technote describes a workaround that enables the CMIS installer to run on Windows 2025.
Symptom
The CMIS installer fails with a message about an unrecognized operating system.
Cause
The version of InstallAnywhere that the CMIS 3.0.7 GA and iFixes 001 through 013 use does not recognize the Windows 2025 operating system.
Environment
• IBM ECM CMIS Version 3.0.7 GA
• IBM ECM CMIS Version 3.0.7 Interim Fix releases 001 through 013
• Microsoft Windows Server 2025
Diagnosing The Problem
When launching the IBM ECM CMIS 3.0.7 GA installer or the installer for the iFixes IF001 through IF013 on Microsoft Windows Server 2025, the installation fails to start and displays an Application Exception Details dialog similar to the following:
Flexeraaxf$aaa: Windows DLL failed to load
If you encounter this error while installing on Microsoft Windows Server 2025, follow the workaround described in the Resolving the Problem section.
Resolving The Problem
To install the base version of IBM ECM CMIS 3.0.7 or any of the iFixes 001 through 013 on Windows Server 2025, complete the following steps before launching the installer:
- Open the Windows 2025 operating system Control Panel.
- Navigate to System and Security > System.
- Click Advanced system settings.
- In the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
Under System variables, click New, then create the following system variable:
Variable Name Variable value JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS "-Dos.name=Windows Server 2016" Important: Include the quotation marks exactly as shown in the variable value.
- Click OK to save the new system variable.
- Close any open installer windows.
- Relaunch the IBM ECM CMIS installer.
The installation should now proceed successfully on Microsoft Windows Server 2025.
Post-installation step - After the installation completes successfully, remove the JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS system variable. Return to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced system settings > Environment Variables, select the JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS variable, and click Delete.
Additional information
- Microsoft Windows Server 2025 is officially supported starting with IBM ECM CMIS 3.0.7 IF014. This workaround is not required for IF014 and later releases.
- The JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS environment variable allows the installer to recognize the operating system during installation. It does not modify the actual operating system version.
