Installing IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) with new DB2 database fails because it cannot connect to the database

Troubleshooting

Problem

You attempt to complete a typical installation of IBM Business Process Manager, a custom installation of IBM Business Process Manager followed by an execution of the BPMConfig command, or a typical installation of IBM Integration Designer including the test environment using a new DB2 database. However, you are notified that the installation failed because you are not able to connect to the DB2 database.

Cause

DB2 is installed, but it is not started.

Diagnosing The Problem

Check if Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (or later) is installed on the system.

Resolving The Problem

Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (or later) and either restart the typical installation or, if you have done a custom installation, re-run the BPMConfig command.
