Installing and uninstalling the Tivoli Storage Manager API Client on IBM Power 8 Little Endian

Troubleshooting


Problem

Starting with Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) version 7.1.2, the TSM API Client is supported on Linux distributions running on IBM Power 8 Little Endian (LE) platforms. This page describes the installation and uninstallation procedure of the TSM API Client on these Linux distributions.

Cause

The supported Linux distributions are:

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.0 LE (RPM packaging manager)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 LE (RPM packaging manager)
  • Ubuntu Server 14.04 LE (Debian packaging manager)

Resolving The Problem

Procedure

To install the Tivoli Storage Manager Linux ppcLE_64 API client on Linux distributions that use RPM package manager, complete the following steps:

  • Download the Tivoli Storage Manager Linux API client RPM packages (see the Related Information section for the link to the Tivoli Storage Manager FTP server).
  • Install the 64-bit GSKit packages. In this example, the "8.x.x.x" characters represent the GSKIT version available on FTP:
      • rpm -i gskcrypt64-8.0.50.40.linux.ppcle.rpm gskssl64-8.0.50.40.linux.ppcle.rpm
  • Install the 64-bit Tivoli Storage Manager API:
      • rpm -i TIVsm-API64.ppc64le.rpm

To uninstall the Tivoli Storage Manager Linux ppcLE_64 API client on Linux distributions that use RPM package manager, complete the following steps:
  • Uninstall the 64-bit Tivoli Storage Manager API:
      • rpm -e TIVsm-API64
  • Uninstall the 64-bit GSKit packages:
      • rpm -e gskcrypt64 gskssl64

To install the Tivoli Storage Manager Linux ppcLE_64 API client on Linux distributions that use Debian package manager, complete the following steps:
  • Download the Tivoli Storage Manager Linux API client DEB packages (see the Related Information section for the link to the Tivoli Storage Manager FTP server).
  • Install the 64-bit GSKit packages. In this example, the "8.x.x.x" characters represent the GSKIT version available on FTP:
      • dpkg -i gskcrypt64_8.0-50.40_ppc64el.deb gskssl64_8.0-50.40_ppc64el.deb
  • Install the 64-bit Tivoli Storage Manager API:
      • dpkg -i tivsm-api64.ppc64el.deb

To uninstall the Tivoli Storage Manager Linux ppcLE_64 API client on Linux distributions that use Debian package manager, complete the following steps:
  • Uninstall the 64-bit Tivoli Storage Manager API:
      • dpkg -r tivsm-api64
  • Uninstall the 64-bit GSKit packages:
      • dpkg -r gskcrypt64 gskssl64
