Installation from Eclipse workbench fails or never completes

Troubleshooting


Problem

When installing WebSphere Application Server Development Tools for Eclipse from an Eclipse v3.6.2 workbench using Java 7, the install fails with an error message, or never completes.

Symptom

The problem has either of the following symptoms:
  • The installation fails with the following error message: "An internal error occurred during: Install download1. Comparison method violates its general contract!".
  • The installation can also hang. The Installing Software window shows the message "Fetching org.eclipse.jst.server.tomcat.core.*" and the installation does not complete.
