News

Abstract

Content

IBM Z Open Editor is a free-of-charge extension for Visual Studio Code and provides language support for COBOL, PL/I, HLASM, and REXX development. Z Open Editor is also bundled in Wazi Code delivered with IBM Z and Cloud Modernization Stack and IBM® Developer for z/OS® Enterprise Edition that have more advanced capabilities.
As platforms running Z Open Editor, such as Eclipse Che/Red Hat® OpenShift® Dev Spaces as well as Eclipse-based offerings that share code, are removing Java 8 support, Z Open Editor will upgrade its codebase to Java 11 by October 2022. Once released, Z Open Editor will not work with Java 8. To continue using Z Open Editor, you are encouraged to install Java 11 from now on, which is already fully supported by the current version of Z Open Editor.
To download and install Java 11, visit IBM Developer.
