InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog: New functionality and links to its documentation in 11.5

Question & Answer

Question

In IBM InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog, version 11.5, what new functionality is introduced and where can I find more information about it? What functionality was deprecated?

Answer

NEW FUNCTIONALITY

Register new asset types in the catalog
You can extend the model of the catalog and add asset types. You can publish metadata from other products to give a holistic representation of your assets that govern information in the catalog. In addition, new asset types can enrich your lineage reports.

For more information, see technote http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21699130.

Data classes
You can classify a database column according to its data class, which can be a regular expression or set of valid values. Classification is included when analyzing database columns by IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer.
• Data classification is the process of assigning a data class to a database column by InfoSphere Information Analyzer during a column analysis job. Data classification can also be done manually by InfoSphere Governance Catalog.
• You can create, edit, and delete data classes. You can assign terms, information governance rules, stewards, custom attributes, and labels to data classes.

For more information, see https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSZJPZ_11.5.0/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.bg.doc/topics/t_data_classification.html

Asset interchange
You can import and export extended data source assets and extension mapping documents from a file that is in an ISX format. Use this command to import these asset types from IBM® InfoSphere® Metadata Workbench, Versions 8.7.x or 9.1.x, to IBM InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog, Version 11.3.1 and later. You can group the number of assets into each XMI file that comprises the ISX export file. This grouping can improve import performance.
For more information, see

https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSZJPZ_11.5.0/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.bg.cli.doc/topics/cli_export_EDS_EMD.html

You can use the -force parameter to istool import custom attribute values command. If the import file uses null for custom attribute values, use this parameter to overwrite existing values with null.
For more information, see
https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSZJPZ_11.5.0/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.bg.cli.doc/topics/cli_custom_attribute_import.html

You can use the -pagesize parameter to istool workbench query command. If downloading query results is slow, use this parameter to increase the number of query result objects that are brought into memory in each batch.
For more information, see https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSZJPZ_11.5.0/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.bg.cli.doc/topics/cli_query.html

UI customization
You can customize the display of properties of terms, categories, information governance policies, and information governance rules in their Details page. This customization can enrich the user's experience in the display and understanding of terms, categories, rules, and policies. You can make a custom design to hide or move properties of glossary assets in their Details page. If all properties of a section are hidden, the section is also hidden.
For more information, see https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSZJPZ_11.5.0/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.bg.doc/topics/t_customize_properties.html

Language configuration of user interface and glossary content
You can define the language for terms, categories, information governance policies, and information governance rules. You can define a translation relationship across different languages. Term assignments can be shared among the different translated terms. You can set the display languages that each user can select from for his user interface text.
For more information, see https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSZJPZ_11.5.0/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.bg.doc/topics/t_configuringaspecificlocale.html

XSD asset type family
You can import and manage XML Schema Definitions (XSD) files. You can display and govern their entities, attributes, and types. You can search, query, and govern the XSD assets in the catalog. The assets are imported in IMAM and are added to the family of XSD assets.

https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSZJPZ_11.5.0/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.metadata.common.doc/topics/c_xml_schema_definition_assets.html

DEPRECATED FUNCTIONALITY

IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary REST API
All versions of IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary REST API are supported in InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog REST API version 11.3.

InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog REST API version 11.5 RU-1 and later supports InfoSphere Business Glossary REST API version 9.1 and InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog REST API version 11.3.

Use IBM InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog REST API to take advantage of additional functionality. The new version uses JSON objects and works with the latest catalog asset types.

Javadocs for IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary for Eclipse
Javadocs are deprecated and no longer supported.

IBM Blueprint Director
IBM Blueprint Director is deprecated and no longer supported. You can view and print any blueprints that existed in the catalog when you migrated from a previous version of InfoSphere Information Server to version 11.5. You cannot create or import new blueprints.

Redirection of the old URL address of IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary and of IBM InfoSphere Metadata Workbench
The automatic console redirection in 11.3 is not available.

Replace the old URL address of IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary and of IBM InfoSphere Metadata Workbench with the URL for InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog (see step 1). Do these steps:

a. If the services tier uses IBM WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment, create an iis.https server variable that is set to the new port. Do this for each server. To set the server variable:

    i. Log in to the WebSphere Application Server Administrative console.
ii. Navigate to the location to add a new server variable: Servers > Server Types > WebSphere Application Servers > > Server Infrastructure > Java and Process Management > Process Definition > Additional Properties > Java Virtual Machine > Additional Properties > Custom Properties
iii. Click New, add the name iis.https and the new port value, click OK, and save the changes to the master configuration.
b. Update scripts, web browser Favorites, REST API programs, and so forth.
