Information Server has created a Java core file. How do I read it?

Troubleshooting

Problem

Note: this document is intended for Java core files generated with the use of IBM Information Server.  Java core files generated by other IBM products can have different causes other than what is covered here.

A Java core file frequently contains information to indicate a root cause.

Sometimes, there are multiple Java cores from the same timestamp and process (for instance, javacore.yyyymmdd.hhmmss.pid.0005.txt versus javacore.yyyymmdd.hhmmss.pid.0007.txt). This situation can occur when the system generates multiple Java cores from multiple threads in the same process. You can start analysis on the lowest number thread.

Symptom

The first step is to verify the file name and Java binary in use.
You can look for the 1TIFILENAME and 1CICMDLINE at the beginning.

The lines look something like:
1TIFILENAME    Javacore filename:    /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/Dmgr01/javacore.20190712.134428.9210.0003.txt
1CICMDLINE     /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/java_1.7_64/bin/java [...]
Or
1TIFILENAME    Javacore filename:    /opt/IBM/InformationServer/ASBNode/javacore.20190916.021351.46061.0002.txt
1CICMDLINE     /opt/IBM/InformationServer/jdk/jre/bin/java [...]
Or
1TIFILENAME    Javacore filename:    /opt/InformationServer/Server/Projects/dstage1/javacore.20191025.074101.11861.0003.txt
1CICMDLINE     [not available]

Based on the paths, the first Javacore is from WebSphere Application Server; the second is from the ASB Node Agent; the third is from one of the stages in a job.
