Question & Answer

Question

We are installing a z114 in place of our existing z10BC which will be used along side our z196. In my I/O gen I am planning on using the same 4 Chpid's that are used on the z196 for the CIB type. That is: z196 - 00 * z114 - 00 z196 - 02 * z114 - 02 z196 - 04 * z114 - 04 z196 - 06 * z114 - 06 Management seems to be worried that there might be some issue(s) with this symmetry. Do you see any problems with this and/or what are your recommendations.

Answer

Let me assure your management that there is absolutely NO DEPENDENCE between definitions of CIB paths in the two processor configurations.
CHP IDs are just logical numbers, used by the Channel Subsystem for addressing channel path definitions in HSA - so, CHP IDs may be chosen
by the installation as they suite its requirements... if this is the rule of symmetry, then so be it.
