Question & Answer
Question
How do you increase logging levels for the iss-spa process?
Answer
Important: When performing administration tasks via SSH or local console, configuration changes made to your IBM appliance by any user other than admin could degrade appliance performance. Installing or activating other services or applications may also impact appliance performance or security. IBM Infrastructure Security Support will only support configuration changes made through the admin configuration menu unless specifically directed by a Support Engineer or IBM documentation. Any other changes will place the product into an unsupported state. Users may be required to reimage the system to restore it to a supported state.
The iss-spa (ISS SiteProtector Adapter) process on Enterprise Scanner handles communications between the appliance and SiteProtector server. All events, policies and commands from SiteProtector are received by iss-spa process. When troubleshooting SiteProtector/Enterprise Scanner related issues, Customer Support may ask that you increase logging levels for this process.
Please follow the below instructions to do so.
- Login as root using SSH or console session.
- Stop the iss-spa service by running service iss-spa stop.
- Open iss-spa.conf for editing: vi /etc/spa/iss-spa.conf.
- Use your arrow keys to get the line containing:
DebugLevel =L 1;
- Highlight the 1 key.
- Press the r key.
- Press the number 5 key.
- Press the Esc key.
- Enter :x! to save and exit.
- Start the iss-spa service by running service iss-spa start.
Debug messages for iss-spa will be written to the /var/log/messages file. Once debugging is complete, you can reset logging to its previous level by changing the 5 value back to 1.
