Problem
This technote explains what can happen during installation of IBM® Rational® ClearCase® when the ATRIAHOME variable is set to an incorrect path on UNIX® or Linux®.
Symptom
Installing Rational ClearCase as root on UNIX or Linux results in the following error:

cleartool: Error: The ClearCase host '<host-name> is installed in a client-only configuration. It cannot be contacted for ClearCase services.
cleartool: Error: Unable to find albd_server.
Trouble mounting public VOBs(32:1)

Something went wrong when we tried to start your servers and possibly load the MVFS into your kernel. Please review the above output from the "/opt/rational/clearcase/etc/clearcase" script for information on the problem, then refer to the product Release Notes for details on how to correct the problem.
