Incorrect font used in PDF report from Rational DOORS Next Generation

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to generate a Portable Document Format (PDF) report from IBM Rational DOORS Next Generation (DNG) does not appear to use the correct font.

Symptom

In DNG 6.0.1 when you generate a 'Print Module Book' report in PDF format you have the option of selecting the Performance or Sophisticated reports. If you generate a report for each and then compare the fonts on the output you will see that there is a difference.

When you review the rrdg log you may see the errors
2016-03-14 12:06:52,681 [RRDG_Thread-84-SYNCHRONISED_EXECUTOR] WARN com.ibm.rational.rrdg - CRRPE3555W PDF warning: Font 'Arial Unicode MS' has not been found. Using 'Aharoni' font instead.

Cause

The cause of the problem is the default font configured in the DNG server is 'Arial Unicode MS' but this is not installed on the Windows server where you are generating the report.

Diagnosing The Problem

Generate the Print Module Book report in PDF format with Sophisticated option and review the rrdg.log. To view the log file use the URL: https://:/rm/logs and view the RRDG log.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve the problem you can do either of the following:

Change the default font on your RTC server using the DNG administrator advanced properties

Open DNG administrator advanced properties: https://ServerName:port/rm/admin#action=com.ibm.team.repository.admin.c…
Set property publish.Font to point to a different font. One that is installed on the server.
Save, on Advanced Properties web page.
Run initialize to apply the new font: https://ServerName:port/rm/publish/initialize
Refresh DNG client and print a new report for the module

Install the 'Arial Unicode MS' onto your Windows server or whatever fond is reported in the error as missing.
Note: Arial Unicode MS is supplied by Microsoft corporation and is licensed to Microsoft.
