Problem

RETAIN tip H184651: If the user gives invalid command line arguments on the Windows Remote Disk CLI utilities, the error may not be printed or the server may give an incorrect error message.

Resolving The Problem

Source
RETAIN tip: H184651

Symptom
If the user gives invalid command line arguments on the Windows Remote Disk CLI utilities, the error may not be printed or may give an incorrect error message.

Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM BladeCenter:
  • IBM BladeCenter, type 8677, any model
  • IBM BladeCenter T, type 8730, any model
  • IBM BladeCenter T, type 8720, any model
The system is configured with the following RSA options:
  • IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II, marketing part number 59P2984, replacement part number (FRU) 02R1654
  • IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II-EXA, marketing part number 13N0382, replacement part number (FRU) 73P9246

The following operating systems are affected:

  • Windows 2000 Server, with Service Pack any applied
  • Windows 2000 Advanced Server, with Service Pack any applied

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.
Please see the compatibility page for more information:
http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/

Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of RDCLI.

The target date for the release is:

  • 1st Quarter, 2006 (estimated)

It will be available from IBM's xSeries Support web site, at the following URL:
http://www.ibm.com/systems/support

Workaround
Carefully examine the command line for mistakes and consult the online help (-h) or the users guide for the proper command syntax.

Additional information
The symptoms are seen on the Windows version of the tool, only. If an argument is provided on the command line that is not preceded with a command flag, the utility stops processing the rest of the command line and may give error messages that appear to be incorrect. The symptoms are not seen with correct usage of the utility. This issue does not impact the performance of the tool.
