Symptom
After managing the IBM Flex System chassis, it has been noted that the architecture and CPU population details for one of the three IBM Flex System x240 Compute Nodes in the chassis is incorrect, showing -1 installed processor, and an unknown architecture.
Affected configurations
The system can be any of the following IBM servers:
- Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 7863, any model
- Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 7863 E5-xxxxV2, any model
- Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 8737, any model
- Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 8737 E5-xxxxV2, any model
- Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 8738, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The UEFI firmware for the IBM Flex System x240 Compute Node is affected.
Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of UEFI.
The target date for this release is fourth quarter 2014.
The file will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/
Workaround
There is no workaround.
Additional information
The UEFI is sending the progress codes so close together that sometimes the Integrated Management Module (IMM) misses one of them. This error causes the IMM to lose the information about the nodes.
The fix to this issue is that UEFI will add a delay when the status returned indicates 'ready to write'.
