Impromptu crashes when connecting to oracle database: impadmin.exe has generated errors

Troubleshooting


Problem

Unable to connect to an Oracle database either by opening a catalog connection or testing a database connection. This occurs after installing a new version of Impromptu and attemting to upgrade a catalog. [

or
Impromtu fails after an upgrade from version 7.1 to version 7.3 when connecting to Oracle.
or
] Impromptu exits when opening a catalog aginst Oracle (and auto attach is active) or when testing the connection.

Symptom

Impromptu crashes with a generic Windows program error message. e.g.:
"impadmin.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."
