Resolve 'IGYRC5108-U Uncorrectable Program Interrupt in IGYCPSCN Phase' error by adjusting compile Region Size or removing SIZE(MAX) in Enterprise COBOL for z/OS

Troubleshooting

Problem

The following message was issued during the compile of a COBOL application: IGYRC5108-U COBOL compiler terminating: Uncorrectable program interrupt condition. ... CURRENT COBOL COMPILER PHASE: IGYCPSCN (STORAGE LOC: xxxx) LAST MODULE RECORDING CONTROL: IGYSERR (STORAGE LOC: xxxx) Some may also see IGYDI5125-U in IGYCDIAG or ABEND878.

Diagnosing The Problem

Note: Messages IGYXX5108-U and IGYXX5125-U are usually followed by additional messages that either give a more specific reason or the name of the failing module. This is not the only situation that could be flagged by these messages.

Resolving The Problem

Increasing the Region Size available for the compile allowed a clean compile for this particular program.

Also, if the program is being compiled using the Enterprise COBOL Integrated CoProcessor (that is the CICS or SQL compiler option) be sure that the compiler option SIZE(MAX) is not used, but that a number smaller than the region size is specified.
