Problem
This document describes how to easily identify the operating system installed release at Sign On display without logging in to IBM iSeries and then run DSPPTF or DSPSFWRSC commands.
Resolving The Problem
If a Telnet session is started to an IBM System i system and you want to determine what operating system release the system is, read the Copyright message on the Sign On display:

Then, compare it with the following table:
Sometimes you want to access a System i system with a specific release; however, you usually must log on and run the DSPPTF or DSPSFWRSC command to know the operating system release it is running.
