Problem

When a memory event occurs and is recorded in the Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA) and Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) event logs, the physical location of the DIMM may sometimes be difficult to determine.

Symptom

For example:

	02/18/2008 18:14:41 I SERVPROC SMI handler reporting Memory ProteXion enabled. Memory copying started. Failed Row = 3. 02/18/2008 18:14:41 I SERVPROC SMI handler has reported a correctable memory error, DIMM = 2.

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

Additional information

The DIMM locations can be determined using the ROW and DIMM values in the error logs.

"ROW" indicates the failing chip-select or rank on the memory card:

	ROW 0 and 1 point to memory DIMM slots 1 and 3. ROW 2 and 3 point to memory DIMM slots 2 and 4.

"DIMM" indicates the physical DIMM location in a numerical sequence based on the memory DIMM slot of each memory card installed in the server:

	1 to 4 Chassis #1, Card #1, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 5 to 8 Chassis #1, Card #2, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 9 to 12 Chassis #1, Card #3, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 13 to 16 Chassis #1, Card #4, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 17 to 20 Chassis #2, Card #1, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 21 to 24 Chassis #2, Card #2, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 25 to 28 Chassis #2, Card #3, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 29 to 32 Chassis #2, Card #4, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 113 to 116 Chassis #8, Card #1, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 117 to 120 Chassis #8, Card #2, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 121 to 124 Chassis #8, Card #3, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4 125 to 128 Chassis #8, Card #4, DIMM SLOT 1 - 4
