Troubleshooting
Problem
There are various issues that occur with IBM Web Interface for Content Management (IBM WEBi) when using Oracle JRE 1.6 update 18 (1.6.0_18) and later.
Symptom
The following versions of Oracle JRE 1.6 update 18 and later are known to cause incompatibilities with IBM WEBi.
Before you apply a newer version of JRE or the Java plug-in to the workstations in your environment, review the issues below.
| Environment | Issue | Affected JRE Levels | Resolution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 | Users cannot use the following IBM WEBi features:
|
1.6 update 20 and later | Use a later version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. |
| Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 8 | If a user refreshes a document in the applet viewer, the web browser closes. | 1.6 update 20 and later | Use JRE 1.7 and later.
See the IBM WEBi prerequisites to determine if JRE 1.7 is supported for your environment. |
| Firefox 3.5 | If a user tries to complete more than one action in the applet viewer, the web browser hangs. | 1.6 update 23 and later | Use Firefox 6 and later.
See the IBM WEBi prerequisites to determine if Firefox 6 is supported for your environment. |
| All environments | Users cannot send document as an attachment or as a link | 1.6 update 24 and later | Use IBM WEBi Version 1.0.4.4+, which includes a fix for this issue. |
In addition, starting with Oracle JRE 1.6 update 18, changes in Oracle JRE security require that JAR files are signed to prevent error messages from being displayed. The JAR files that are provided with IBM WEBi V1.0.4.1 and subsequent fix packs are signed. Because the IBM WEBi JAR files are signed, you cannot update the WCAppletMessages.properties file in IBM WEBi Version 1.0.4.1 and subsequent fix packs.
Any issues that are determined to have a root cause in the Oracle JRE code are outside the scope of assistance that IBM Software Support can provide. If the root cause is identified as the Oracle JRE, it is recommended that you contact Oracle for assistance.
