Question

IBM Web Services Overview

Answer

IBM Web Services Overview

IBM? web services are a collectionof message flows that use Websphere Transformation Extender (WTX)maps for transforming requests and responses. IBM provides the followingweb services:
  • IBM Sterling SynchronousB2B Process Service - provides real-time website inquiry / responseprocessing as well as the synchronous exchange of supply chain documents. Companies have the ability to synchronously exchange messages withpartners through the IBM B2BServices environment regardless of differing web services interfaces.
  • IBM Sterling ProcessEnrichment Service ? provides the ability to take a standard B2Bdocument flow and connect out to a web service source to either validateinformation within the business document or to gather additional informationthat will be used to enrich the business document content.
Note: When the terms asynchronous and synchronous areused throughout this document it refers to the overall data flownot an individual HTTP/S connection within the data flow. A synchronousflow means that the original primary HTTP connection remains openuntil the response is received from the partner and can be deliveredback to the originator in the same communications session. (This canalso be called a real-time data flow.) An HTTP/S connection is a synchronousconnection as it provides a response code to the client during thecommunications session.

Features

The SterlingSynchronous B2B Process Service and the SterlingProcess Enrichment Service provide the following features:

FeatureDescription
HTTP & SOAP supportThe web services can send and receive messageswith the HTTP and SOAP protocols.
SecurityThe web services support HTTP basic access authenticationover SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for inbound and outbound connectionsand can accept or provide client certificates for authentication.
Visibility & trackingCustomers can use IBM Sterling InFlight Data Management totrack documents sent and received with the SterlingSynchronous B2B Process Service or the SterlingProcess Enrichment Service.
Configurable timeoutsYou can configure (within limits) the amountof time IBM will wait on a response to a request. The default timeoutis 90 seconds.
Query string supportIBM can accept a query string from a requestand make it available to a map used to help in processing.
WTX map supportThe transformation maps that are executed forweb services are WebSphere? TransformationExtender (WTX) maps. The version of WTX maps supported is 8.3.0.3.

Visibility and Tracking

You can use Sterling InFlight Data Management toreview the status of documents processed. A green status is givento successful transactions and a red status is given to transactionsthat cannot be processed successfully.

Synchronous documentflows are tracked as one transaction with detailed steps and statusof all business documents and processing steps. Transaction numberscan be searchable in SterlingInFlight Data Management as customer-defined reference fields.

MaximumFile Sizes

IBM is able to support documents with a maximumfile size of 100 KB in both a SterlingSynchronous B2B Process Service message flow and in a Sterling Synchronous B2B Process Service messageflow.

Batching

The SterlingProcess Enrichment Service and the SterlingSynchronous B2B Process Service do not support batching of data. You should send files that contain only one sender and receiver perfile. Files should contain only one document per file. If either ofthese conditions are violated the file will fail and will be markedred in Sterling InFlight DataManagement.
