IBM Video Streaming Q&A Features

This article covers the Q&A features available in your dashboard under Channel > Interactivity > Q&A Settings.

In the Q&A settings, click the toggle button to enable the feature. Once you have enabled Q&A for your channel, the Q&A widget will appear to the right of the player.

Moderators

Note: Video streaming account or channel administrators do not automatically become Q&A moderators. Even administrators must add themselves as moderators to moderate the Q&A.

For Enterprise and Video Streaming accounts with organization settings: Moderators can be added using their SAML ID or email addresses with IBMids that have been given Channel admin access.

If you don't want to grant Channel admin rights in the Organization settings to a moderator, then this potential moderator must create an IBMid and sign up for a free trial account.

For accounts with SILVER, GOLD, or PLATINUM subscription plan:

• Please have new Q&A moderators create an IBMid associated with the email address you add and sign up for a free video streaming trial account if they haven't already done so. Visit https://myibm.ibm.com/ to create an IBMid. Visit https://www.ibm.com/products/video-streaming/pricing to sign up for a free trial.
• Provide them with the channel page URL of the channel they are allowed to moderate Q&A.
• Moderators need to log into their own video streaming accounts in the same browser while moderating Q&A on your channel page.
• Moderators do not need a paid subscription; they can continue to log into their video streaming accounts even after their free trial has expired.

To add moderators:

1. Click Manage moderators
2. Click Add Q&A moderator
3. Enter the email address or SAML ID and click Add

To remove moderators:

1. Click the checkbox to the left of the moderator, and click Remove

   

2. Click Remove to confirm

   

Question Settings

By default, all questions are visible. You can change Question settings to manage when questions become visible to all viewers.

1. Click Manage settings

2. Select your desired option and click Save

   

When the Only approved questions option is selected, the questions are visible only to moderators and the viewers who posted them until they are approved by a moderator.

When the Only questions that are answered option is selected, the questions are visible only to moderators and the viewers who posted them until they are answered by a moderator.

Moderator Capabilities

Not only on the channel page, the moderators who can log in to your video streaming account, can access Q&A widget directly from the Q&A settings page by clicking Open Q&A in the upper right corner.

Q&A moderators have the ability to:

• Answer questions
• Approve questions (when Only approved questions option is selected for the Question settings)
• Delete single questions
• Clear Q&A

You can filter the type of questions you want to see, and change the order. Click Pop out to open the Q&A in a separate pop-up window.

Click Answer under the viewer's question to write and submit your answer, and click Approve to make the question visible to all viewers.

Note: A moderator can answer the question without approving it, leaving the question visible only to the moderators and the viewer who posted it.

Deleting Questions

For moderators, there are two different ways to remove questions:

1. Delete Individual Questions

The intended use of this feature is to delete an inappropriate or off-topic question from the list. 

Note: once the question is deleted this way, it will not appear in the Q&A export.

Hover over the question and click Delete to delete only the question.

2. Clear Q&A

The intended use of this feature is to clean up the Q&A widget after closing an event and/or preparing for a new one. The questions will appear in the Q&A export later.

Click the gear icon to open the Settings, then click the trash bin icon to clear the Q&A.

Votes

Toggle the voting feature on or off.

When enabled, viewers can upvote each question once by clicking the Thumbs up icon to the left of the question.

Export Q&A

1. Click Manage Q&A exports
2. Click Export Q&A data
3. Enter the start and end date/time, and click Export
4. You will be redirected to Q&A exports page

5. Once the export is processed, click Options

   

6. Click to select either Excel or JSON formats

   

Your export will download to your device.

Viewer Nickname and Options

When viewers join the Q&A for the first time, they'll be prompted to enter a nickname. They can click the gear icon and change their nickname in the settings.

Viewers can edit and delete their own questions.
