Abstract

This fix pack is a cumulative fix release and addresses APARs and internally found issues since the release of Tivoli Network Manager IP Edition 3.9 Fix Pack 4 Interim Fix 1.

Download Description

Notice: IBM will withdraw support for the selected Netcool product versions licensed under the IBM International Program License Agreement.

Summary of the Enhancements included in this Fix Pack
1. RFE 35101 - New agent to discover F5 components.
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=35101
2. Cisco Nexus Multiple Instance Support using SNMP context - IV62278
3. ALU SAM Certification feedback
4. F5-BIGIP-COMMON-MIB.mib and F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB.mib MIB support added.
5. NCIM APAR IV72128 fix tar ball included.
6. New AOC class files are defined and created, see IV70711.
7. Health check problem events on ITNM Failover features implemented.
8. Improved Oracle RAC connection capabilities.
You can now define a custom Oracle connection string. This connection string can be used for connecting to an Oracle RAC cluster, or for other purposes.
9. Improved root-cause analysis (RCA) capabilities.

RCA capabilities have been enhanced, as follows:
    • The inject_fake_events.pl Perl script has been added. This script provides the ability to generate fake events in order to verify RCA.
    • The RCA path tool has been added. This tool provides the ability to check whether a topological path between network devices exists for the purposes of topological correlation using the RCA path tool.
10. Schema audit tables have been created to audit changes made to schema as part of FPs.
11. Enhanced a new option in disco.config to have sub interfaces unmanaged if primary interface is unmanaged in TagManagedEntities.stch or PopulateDNCIM_ManagedStatus.stch. When doing Interface level polling (e.g. SNMP Link State) , we don't raise alerts on unmanaged Interfaces, but it still raise event on sub-interfaces.They should be suppressed too as the parent is in unmanaged state. New option added for disco.config table in DiscoConfig.cfg (defined in DiscoSchema.cfg).

Known problems with V3.9.0 Fix Pack 5
In Fix Pack 5, the ncp_dla.properties file has a parameter called ncp.dla.refresh.book which is set to true by default. Please note that there is a
problem running with this default value, in that it will not create new devices in TBSM when the IDML file is imported via the XMLtoolkit process. As a
workaround, set the parameter to false. New devices will be correctly imported into TBSM.
============================================================================
Other known problems are documented in the form of individual Technotes in the Software Support knowledge base.
Go to the following link to perform an advanced search of the knowledge base:
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/sysmgmt/products/support/IBMTivoliNetworkManagerIPEdition.html

Prerequisites

IBM Tivoli Network Manager V3.9 must be installed before applying this
Fix Pack. Fix Pack 5 can be install over original 3.9 GA (3.9.0.32), 3.9 Refresh (3.9.0.68) or any other 3.9 Fix Pack.

  •  Ensure there is approximately 1 GB of free space on the drive on which the product was installed.
  •   Take appropriate backups of your system.
  •   Install the required database schema updates for the fix pack.

Windows 2008 imposes a limit of 260 characters for the full name (including path) of a file.
Network Manager 3.9 Fix Pack 2 and later fix packs already have some very long directory names
because the fix pack contains updates from many components such as WebSphere, TIP, TCR,
which by themselves are up to 221 characters in length, including separators. Therefore Windows
users are advised to select a location for the compressed Network Manager 3.9 Fix Pack image
on their machine so that when extracted, the resulting file names are less than 260 characters.
For example, C:\Build will work as a location for the fix pack image, but
C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\Test will not.

Note: When using the Windows command line, preface and suffix environment
variables with the percentage sign %, and replace each forward slash (/)
with a backslash (\) in directory paths.
For example, on Windows systems, $NCHOME is %NCHOME%.

Full details on installation prerequisite for this fixpack can be found in the 3.9.0_INSTALL_FP0005 file.

Installation Instructions

  •  Extract the fix pack image as the same user who performed the original Network Manager 3.9.0 installation.
  •  Run the Network Manager IP Edition 3.9.0 Fix Pack 5 installation script from the directory containing the fix pack installation files.
  •   Check the installation logs for errors.
  •  If Tivoli Common Reporting is being used as a reporting tool, perform additional installation tasks to update the network management reports.
  •  For non-root installations, perform additional installation tasks.
  • Copy the new version of the CleanSystem file to correct location.
  • Please use the same user id that you used to install the product/fix pack to extract these and then run the fix pack installer

If upgrading an existing IBM Tivoli Network Manager (ITNM) 3.9 installation that is using Tivoli Integrated Portal (TIP) version 2.1 to use TIP version 2.2, you will need the TIP FIT package. The TIP FIT package contains a TIP signature file used with TIP 2.2 Fix Packs and Feature Pack. Additional fix packs for TIP 2.2 can be applied after TIP 2.2.0.1 (Feature Pack), such as TIP 2.2.0.17. Each fix pack of TIP 2.2 (such as TIP 2.2.0.17) will have a separate TIP FIT package / signature file associated with it.

To obtain the TIP signature files, download them from Fix Central -->
