Product Lifecycle
Abstract
The IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) product uses Java in several ways. This document describes the current Java levels and support, as well as future plans.
Content
ITM 6.3, with the latest maintenance, installs IBM Java 8 in CANDLEHOME for all supported platforms except HP-UX 11.x PA-Risc. On Unix/Linux that CANDLEHOME JRE is used by install, command line and configuration code, the TEP desktop client, and the Summarization and Pruning agent (S&P). In addition, any agents installed on any UNIX or Linux system which is at the latest 6.3.0 level of TEMA Framework will include IBM Java 8 for Install, command, configuration and any Java-based data provider the agent uses to collect data. Windows systems typically will only include IBM Java if the agent uses a Java-based data collector but the level of JRE depends on how the agent was installed and if any 630 infrastructure agents were also installed. You can have your CANDLEHOME updated to Java 8 by applying either the most recent Java 8 Update or if you are at the 630 Maintenance level 630 Fix Pack 7 service pack 1, or later, the most recent TEMA update (see related URL's below for links).
IBM Java 7 is no longer supported since September 2022.
IBM Java 8 is supported until at least Dec 2026.
Currently, the ITM TEPS installs and runs eWAS 8.0, which includes IBM Java 6. As of 630 Fix Pack 7 Service pack 5 or later you can upgrade to WAS 8.55.16.0 and IBM Java 8.
For the TEP Webstart Client, and TEP Desktop application, users can use Oracle Java 8 as well as IBM Java 8. Currently, Java 9 or above is not supported.
TEP Browser Client is no longer supported. See details in latest ITM 6.3.0.7 Service Pack readmes, i.e. the ITM 6.3.0.7 SP19 readme
The attempt to launch TEP Java WebStart client with Java 7 will fail
Oracle is moving to a subscription model for some versions of Oracle Java. For clients who want to avoid the Oracle subscription costs, they can use the IBM Java that is provided with ITM. IBM Java 8 can be downloaded from TEPS server, using following urls (as documented in recent ITM 6.3.0.7 service pack readmes):
