Content
Important items to be aware of in this maintenance release:
- IBM Tivoli Monitoring version 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 service pack 21 is intended to be applied to an existing 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 (or 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 plus prior service pack) installation base. However, installing service pack 21 allows for OS Agents running versions before 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 (for example 6.3.0 Fix Pack 5) to be upgraded directly to the service pack fix version included. Also, for the OS agents, a pristine installation is available either using remote deployment or the exportbundles option of tacmd:
LZ Monitoring Agent for LinuxOS (6.30.07.19)
NT Monitoring Agent for Windows OS (6.30.07.18)
UX Monitoring Agent for UNIX OS (6.30.07.20)
A4 Monitoring Agent for i5/OS (6.30.07.15)
Agentless Monitoring for Windows Operating Systems (r2) (06.30.07.15)
Agentless Monitoring for AIX Operating Systems (r3) (06.30.07.15)
Agentless Monitoring for Linux Operating Systems (r4) (06.30.07.15)
Agentless Monitoring for HP-UX Operating Systems (r5) (06.30.07.15)
Agentless Monitoring for Solaris Operating Systems (r6) (06.30.07.15)
See technote IBM Tivoli Monitoring OS Agents: Installing maintenance by way of interim fix or service pack for more information.
Service pack 21 includes the latest System Monitoring Agents at the following levels:

Service pack 21 includes the latest IBM Tivoli Monitoring Event Synchronization Component at version 3.0.0.8.
Also included in the Service pack 21 is an update for the "embedded WebSphere® Application Server" from v8 to WebSphere® Application Server v8.5.5.16.
Note: For systems that have the "Tivoli Enterprise Portal(cq)" component installed, the service pack install requires that the "embedded WebSphere® Application Server" be updated from v8 to "WebSphere® Application Server v8.5.5.16". The service pack install will check and run the update if needed so please confirm the environment supports v8.5.5 (See System Requirements for WebSphere Application Server v8.5.5).
After the service pack is successfully installed, the latest cumulative update for the IBM Tivoli Monitoring WebSphere Application and IBM HTTP Server are available from Fix Central.
- Also included in the service pack is an update of the "IBM Eclipse Help Server" to the "IBM Knowledge Center Help Server".
Note: Before applying the IBM Knowledge Center update, the WebSphere® Application Server must be updated to v8.5.5.16 or higher. - This is a cumulative service pack for IBM Tivoli Monitoring, Version 6.3.0 Fix Pack 07. This service pack is provided as an official maintenance release and contains updates for Server components, shared components, and OS Agents.
- The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) packages that are shipped with IBM Tivoli Monitoring have been upgraded to the following:
- 1.8.0 SR8 FP45 for CANDLEHOME on AIX, Linux(x86, x86_64, zSeries and PPC64LE), Solaris and Windows

Information on downloading IBM Tivoli Monitoring Version 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 service pack 21 :
IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 service pack 21 (6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-SP0021)
Prerequisites and corequisites
The service pack can be applied to an existing IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 or 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 with service pack installation. 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 is available as both a pristine and upgrade installation:
IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 (6.3.0-TIV-ITM-FP0007)
The System Monitoring Agents can be installed pristine, or over any existing System Monitoring Agent installation.
- After service pack install may need to reconfigure Windows portal server (ODBC connection). The following pop up error from TEP client during "History Collection Configuration":
KFWITM217E Request Error "[IBM][CLI Driver][DB2/NT64] SQL0204N "TEPS.KFWHISTDATA" is an undefined name. SQLSTATE=42704, GENERIC SQLSTATE: 42S02, ERR: -204
+65C43D24.0003 SQLExecDirect rc=-1: SQL_ERROR"
Can be resolved by following the steps for Configuring a Windows portal server (ODBC connection) - After upgrading the Monitoring Server or Warehouse Poxy Agent installation to 6.3.0.7 SP0014 or above, agents in GSKit 7 based installations can no longer connect. See the following bulletin for details and workaround:
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7005035
- For Windows TEPS installations, a problem exists where the help server port value is corrupted on an upgrade to ITM 6.30fp7 Service pack 21. This results in not being able to open help when selecting "Help" from the TEP Client application.
Resolution:
Before the upgrade to Service pack 21, take note of the current help server port value by going to the Manage Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Services console, right click on "Eclipse Help Server" and select "Reconfigure".
The default value for the help server port is 9999, but may have been changed based upon the local installation.
Continue the SP21 upgrade as normal. To avoid this issue, run the SP21 upgrade from the CANDLE_HOME drive.
After the SP21 upgrade has completed, test if help is able to be opened from the TEPS console. If it is not, correct the problem by going to the Manage Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Services console, right clicking on "Eclipse Help Server" and selecting "Reconfigure".
If a corrupted value of two double quotes is in the entry field, replace this value with the help server port number that was recorded earlier. Do not enclose the numeric port value in quotes.
Select OK.
Restart both the TEPS and the Help Server.(See note regarding port change)
- The Tivoli Enterprise Client (TEP) component previously supported 3 separate deployment modes: desktop, browser, and Java Web Start. The browser client is implemented using Java applet technology, which is dependent on support in the browser for a plug-in API called NPAPI (Netscape Plugin API). Over the last decade, modern browser vendors have been restricting, reducing, and, more recently, removing support for plug-in technology such as Flash, Silverlight, and Java. As of 2022, the only major browser vendor that still supports the NPAPI is Microsoft and the Internet Explorer (IE) v11 browser. Microsoft's™ replacement for IE v11 is their Edge browser, which does not support Java applets. Browsers from Google (Chrome), Mozilla (Firefox), and Apple (Safari) dropped support for Java applets several years ago.
Microsoft has announced an End-Of-Life (EOL) cycle for the IE v11 browser. The details are provided in the following document:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/faq/internet-explorer-microsoft-edge#what-is-the-lifecycle-policy-for-internet-explorer-
Of specific interest to ITM customers is that Microsoft Windows 10 (and, by extension, later versions of Windows for the desktop) will no longer support IE v11 as of June 15, 2022. Since IE v11 is the only remaining browser from a major vendor that still supports the execution of Java applets, once this browser is no longer supported by Microsoft, IBM will no longer be able to adequately support the use of the TEP browser client deployment with ITM.
Removal in IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 Service pack 21 :
With this service pack, the TEP browser client deployment will no longer be supported. Attempts to launch the TEP browser client will fail. All ITM customers must migrate their TEP client deployment to either Java Web Start or the desktop. The previous browser interface would allow for downloading an IBM JRE to use with the browser or webstart client. You can still access the IBM JRE via direct download links as follows:
https://<teps_hostname>:15201/java/ibm-java8.msi (32 bit Windows JRE)
https://<teps_hostname>:15201/java/ibm-java8_64.msi (64 bit Windows JRE)
https://<teps_hostname>:15201/java/ibm-java8.rpm (32 bit Linux x86/x86_64 installable rpm)
https://<teps_hostname>:15201/java/ibm-java8_64.rpm (64 bit Linux x86_64 installable rpm)
https://<teps_hostname>:15201/java/ibm-java8.tgz (32 bit Linux x86/x86_64 gzip compressed tar file)
https://<teps_hostname>:15201/java/ibm-java8_64.tgz (64 bit Linux x86_64 gzip compressed tar file)
Attempt to launch TEP Java WebStart client with Java 7 environment will fail.
For the TEP Java WebStart Client, and the TEP Desktop application, users can use Oracle Java 8 as well as IBM Java 8. Currently, Java 9 or above is not suppported.
- Remote deploy of agents to Windows systems may require service pack 6 or later to be installed directly as per APAR IJ37912. These changes were made to address the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable update and possible component incompatibility issues.
- Since service pack 6 the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (runtimes) used for IBM Tivoli Monitoring for both 32 and 64 bit components on Windows, were updated from VC++ 7.1 (32-bit) and VC++ 9.0 (64-bit) to VC++ 12.0 (both 32 and 64 bit). The installation automatically installs the correct runtime if it's not installed. However, the service pack only includes the components included with the IBM Tivoli Monitoring platform as listed in the Components of the monitoring architecture in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Installation guide. Other IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents (ITM 6.x Product codes) are still to be rebuilt and updated to the newer runtimes. They might not work correctly when the service pack is applied on the same windows systems as those agents. Check the Agent compatibility with IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 service pack 6 document before applying this service pack.
- Remote deployment installs (createnode, updateagent) can fail for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 releases. Ensure you have the latest available ksh rpm for your system if remote deployment fails and try again, or try local installation.
- RHEL 9 zlinux fresh install teps not working.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9 for IBM System z no longer supports 31-bit applications which prevents the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS or cq) component on original IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 media from being installed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 or 9 for IBM System z. This service pack provides updates to allow TEPS installation by following the steps listed here Updating 630 Fix Pack 7 pristine...
Installation information
Before you proceed with the installation process, make note of these important points:
- Assign CANDLEHOME environment variable (UNIX or Linux only)
Before you begin installing this service pack on UNIX or Linux systems, make sure that the
environment variable $CANDLEHOME is set to the IBM Tivoli Monitoring installation directory.
Note: The directory /opt/IBM/ITM is the default installation directory.
For example:
> CANDLEHOME=/opt/IBM/ITM
> export CANDLEHOME
- Transfer the appropriate archive file:
6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-LINUX-SP0021.tar.gz - IBM Tivoli Monitoring Base and Base Agents for all supported Linux platforms
6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-TOOLS-SP0021.tar.gz - IBM Tivoli Monitoring Tools
6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-UNIX-SP0021.tar.gz - IBM Tivoli Monitoring Base and Base Agents for all supported UNIX platforms
6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-WINDOWS-SP0021.zip - IBM Tivoli Monitoring Base and Base Agents for 32-bit only ITM installed Windows platforms
6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-WINDOWS64-SP0021.zip- IBM Tivoli Monitoring Base and Base Agents for 64-bit Windows platforms
to a temporary directory on the system that contains the code to be updated. For the purpose of this readme file,
the symbol <TEMP> represents the fully qualified path to this directory.
Note: On Windows the fully qualified path includes the drive letter.
Expand the archive file by use of the tar command on UNIX or Linux systems or
an unzip utility on Windows systems. Expanding the archive file creates a directory
structure that contains fixes for all of the supported platforms. - As a best practice, it is recommended that all running IBM Tivoli Monitoring processes be stopped manually before doing an upgrade from a previous version to this service pack level. For systems with TEMS or TEPS installed, the service pack installer does not allow installation until the TEMS and TEPS are stopped. While the upgrade installer does attempt to stop all other running processes, there are times when a running process fails to stop and that can lead to unexpected upgrade failures if the upgrade is allowed to continue. If any process fails to stop during a manual shutdown, restart the system before proceeding with the upgrade.
- Before you begin installing this service pack on AIX in a Portal Server installation, the AIX Toolbox needs to be installed to provide libgcc.a and libgcc_s.a for the new IBM Installation Manager v1.10.1 (ITM ii component version shown as 11.00.10.00). This can be resolved by following the instructions for Get Started with the AIX Toolbox for Open Source Software.
- Before upgrading, execute the cinfo or KinCInfo command per the instructions in the section entitled Validating what you installed. After the install completes, this will help in validating the installation. Once you complete the install, continue with the next section entitled Performing the necessary tasks after installation.
- On Unix/Linux back up the <CANDLEHOME> directory. In the event that the service pack install fails for some reason, you can quickly revert to the previous install.
- The following information applies to users upgrading on UNIX or Linux using a non-root userid for the management server, portal server or any ITM or ITCAM agent. You can use any non-root userid so long as that userid is already created. You must use the same userid as was used for the original installation, or the root userid. The following steps assume you used userid "itmuser" and group "itmgrp" and that the userid and group must already be created. If your userid and group differ then please specify the userid and group as per your installation.
1. Perform the management server, portal server, ITM or ITCAM agent upgrade as user itmuser.
2. After the installation completes, run "SetPerm -a" as user root.
3. When updating the management server:
1. If Management server security was enabled, run "SetPerm -s" as user root to re-enable management server security.
2. Add application support to the hub management server.
4. When updating the portal server:
1. Configure the portal server as user root (this step runs InstallPresentation and adds application support on the portal server).
2. Execute the following command as user root to change the ownership of all files in $CANDLEHOME to user itmuser and group itmgrp:
chown -Rf itmuser:itmgrp $CANDLEHOME
3. Run "SetPerm -a" as root user again
5. Start the management server, portal server, ITM or ITCAM agent as user itmuser.
- The following information applies to users upgrading on Windows systems.
Ensure you are logged on locally to the Windows machine with a userid that has administrator rights.
- The following are recommended steps to facilitate recovery of the Tivoli Enterprise Management Server (TEMS) or the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS) in the case where problems are encountered during the installation of this service pack.
Management Server
-
- Run the pdcollect utility to gather all of the current logs and environment files. These backups can be used for reference, if needed, after the upgrade. The "tacmd pdcollect -help" command can be issued to obtain the syntax for the pdcollect utility.
Portal Server
-
- Run the migrate-export.bat (Windows) or migrate-export.sh (UNIX or Linux) to backup the contents of the portal server database. This snapshot will allow for recovery of the database back to the point before installing this service pack maintenance.
- Run the pdcollect utility to gather all of the current logs and environment files. These backups can be used for reference, if needed, after the upgrade. The "tacmd pdcollect -help" command can be issued to obtain the syntax for the pdcollect utility.
Note: For Updating systems with any of: AS MS CQ SH CW or CJ components installed (usually TEMS/TEPS)
the system must be updated to 630 Fix Pack 7 or later service pack for the listed components.
Systems without any of AS MS CQ SH CW or CJ components can be directly updated from a version earlier
than 630 Fix Pack 7 directly to Version 630 Fix Pack 7 Service Pack 21 for the following included components:
LZ NT UE UX AX/GL GS JR/JM CI AC R2 R3 R4 R5 R6
1. For Linux installs:
cd <TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-LINUX-SP0021

See the 6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-SP-EventSync.readme file for installation and configuration information.
Performing the necessary tasks after installation
Since the service pack updates webstart client jars all TEP client users should clear the cache to ensure the latest jars are in use. You can clear your cache as documented Clearing the JAR cache. Note that the preferred way to launch the TEP client is using Java WebStart as the browser client is no longer supported by modern browsers.
Upgrading the Help Server for a TEPS system to the IBM Knowledge Center Help Server if installation and post install processing ran without error.
Important Notes:
- If the TEPS system has been updated to WebSphere/HTTP v8.5.5.x by a previous service pack installation, you do not need to update it again.
- If the TEPS system has been updated to the IBM Knowledge Center Help Server by a previous service pack installation, you do not need to upgrade it again.
- Before applying the Help Server upgrade to the IBM Knowledge Center Help Server, confirm that the TEPS system has been updated to WebSphere/HTTP v8.5.5.x.
- You must install this package with the same userid that you originally used to install the portal server. If you are unsure of the userid, it is the owner of the portal server directory:
ls -ald <CANDLEHOME>/*/cq
- Back up the <CANDLEHOME> directory
- Use your local procedures to stop the portal server and the Eclipse help server
- Perform the upgrade:
AIX or Linux:
$CANDLEHOME/bin/kcci20uplift.sh -h $CANDLEHOME
Windows:
kcci20uplift -h %CANDLE_HOME% - Use your local procedures to restart the portal server
Note: After upgrading the Help Server to IBM Knowledge Center Help Server, any time the Help Server is reconfigured to change the port kcci20rebuild must be run so that the Help Server will start with the changed port. By default KCCI uses the following ports, 9999(http) and 9444(https).
Restart both the TEPS and the Help Server.
You can validate your installation by running the KinCInfo command on Windows systems or the cinfo command on Linux or UNIX systems. If you run these commands before and after the upgrade, you can clearly see the component versions that have changed.
For service pack fixes, only components that are updated during this release have the latest listed level. Note that the version number can be different across components depending on the level of maintenance included. If a component has not been updated, the command reports the GA version. There is no need to upgrade this component if your system is at the listed level, the install programs automatically handle this.
Note: The KinCInfo and cinfo command output examples in the sections that follow show all service pack components that can be updated (highlighted). If you do not have all of these components installed, then components not installed are not displayed in the output of these commands.
Note: The version(s) for iu (IBM HTTP Server) and iw (IBM Websphere Application Server) reflect the latest available updated patch at the time this readme file was published (8.55.21.03). You can search IBM downloads for the latest upgrade patch.

Remote service pack installation
The following components are remote deployable:
PC Description
-- ------------
lz Monitoring Agent for Linux OS
nt Monitoring Agent for Windows OS
tf Tivoli Enterprise Management Agent Framework Update
ue Tivoli Enterprise Services User Intefercase Extensions
ux Monitoring Agent for UNIX OS

- Transfer the appropriate archive file (6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-<PLATFORM>-SP0021.tar.gz or .zip) to a temporary directory on the system that contains the code to be updated. For the purpose of this readme file, the symbol <TEMP> represents the fully qualified path to this directory. Note: On Windows, this includes the drive letter.
- Expand the archive file using the tar command on UNIX systems or an unzip utility on Windows systems. This creates a directory structure that contains fixes for all of the supported platforms.
- Add the deploy components to the TEMS Depot by executing the following command
For Linux packages (lz, r#, tf and ue)
cd <TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-LINUX-SP0021/bundles/unix
For UNIX (r#, tf, ue and ux)
cd <TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-UNIX-SP0021/bundles/unix
For Windows packages (nt, r#, tf and ue)
cd <TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-WINDOWS64-SP0021/bundles/WINDOWS/Deploy
To load all components to your depot run the following command once each for UNIX or Linux and then Windows components:
For UNIX or Linux:
$CANDLEHOME/bin/tacmd addbundles -i .
For Windows:
tacmd addbundles -i .
Or you can load only those bundles you want using one or more of the Product codes from the components listed
tacmd addbundles -i . [-t] [<pc>] [<pc> ...]
i.e.
tacmd addbundles -i . -t lz tf
Make note of the deployable component versions as you add the bundles and then use either the updateAgent
or updateFramework commands to remotely deploy.
Pristine installation images for OS agents
The steps are as outlined at this link:
Separating the downloaded ITM/ITCAM media image into smaller agent/platform bundles
Note: point to <TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-LINUX-SP0021/bundles/unix or <TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-UNIX-SP0021/bundles/unix
or <TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-WINDOWS64-SP0021/bundles/WINDOWS/Deploy
for the media path per the steps in link.
Updating 630 Fix Pack 7 pristine installation media for new platform support
For all new platforms listed you can install from 630 Fix Pack 7 media but the prerequisite scan will report errors. So long as the errors are just OS Version failure, ITM 630 Fix Pack 7 will install and configure correctly with the following exceptions:
- Solaris 11.4 UNIX OS monitoring agent needs to be installed from service pack 3 or later
- The Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (CQ) on Linux for System z cannot be installed unless libstdc++.so.5 (compat-libstdc++-33.x on RHEL or libstdc++33.x on SUSE) is also installed. However, since libstdc++.so.5 has been deprecated, newer versions of both RHEL and SUSE no longer provide libstdc++.so.5. You can patch your IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 Base Linux on System z media to allow for Tivoli Enterprise Portal installation on these newer RHEL and SUSE versions.
The service pack provides a mechanism to patch Pristine installation 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 install images so that you can get the latest prerequisite scanner definitions as well as patching the IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.3.0.7 Base, Linux on System z® media so that you can install the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server on newer OS versions on Linux for System z (See install steps below). In all cases after doing a pristine installation from patched 630 Fix Pack 7, you would still need to additionally apply the service pack. Also if you patch windows media, due to the update to Visual C++ runtimes, you must also apply the service pack after doing a pristine installation from patched 630 Fix Pack 7 media.
To patch 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 media, you need an extracted image in a writable location or point to a new, writable, location in case your source image is read-only. To patch your media:
Linux:
<TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-LINUX-SP0021/mediaupdate
UNIX:
<TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-UNIX-SP0021/mediaupdate
Windows:
<TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-WINDOWS64-SP0021/mediaupdate.bat
To patch the installation media:
mediaupdate -h media_dir [-w write_dir] [-r]
where: -h media_dir full path of the original CD image or expanded
media directory.
-w write_dir is optional and is full path of the modified CD image directory.
it's only required if media_dir is not a writable directory.
-r is optional and restores updated media to original contents if you want to undo patching of the extracted installation media
Per the usage you must specify the location of a 6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 extracted install image (pristine) and the script copies over the updated install, prerequisite checking and for base Linux for System z the TEPS and teps install manager files needed to then use the modified pristine image to do a fresh install of your target OS (all supported components). Again, after installation using the updated media, then immediately apply SP21
for example
Linux:
<TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-LINUX-SP0021/mediaupdate -h /tmp/6307media/agents
<TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-LINUX-SP0021/mediaupdate -h /tmp/6307media/base_zlinux
UNIX:
<TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-UNIX-SP0021/mediaupdate -h /tmp/6307media/agents
Windows:
<TEMP>/6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-WINDOWS64-SP0021/mediaupdate.bat -h c:\temp\6307media\agents
To install Tivoli Enterprise Portal on Linux for System z for newer OS versions after patching Base Linux for System z install media:
- Run the install for the Tivoli Enterprise Portal from the patched media
- Immediately apply this service pack per the installation instructions
- Configure the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (cq) component before continuing with the service pack "Perform the necessary tasks after installation"
Additional installation updates
New utility for securing Windows installations
The service pack installation provides a new command on Windows:
%CANDLE_HOME%\InstallITM\securemain.cmd
An administrator can use the command to limit the permissions non-admin users have on the C:\IBM\ITM (%CANDLE_HOME%) folder.
To set security permissions limiting non administrators users from creating files or folders, use the following command:
secureMain lock
To remove security settings use the following command:
secureMain unlock
Command syntax can be viewed with the following syntax:
secureMain -?
The secureMain commands use the following syntax:
secureMain [-h install_dir] [-g SID] [-d folder] lock
secureMain [-h install_dir] [-g SID] unlock
where variables are defined as follows:
install_dir is the directory path for the IBM Tivoli Monitoring installation.
If this parameter is not supplied, the script attempts to determine the installation directory.
SID is the Windows Security Identifier. The default SID used is S-1-5-11.
folder is an additional folder to set admin rights for. This is used when factory agents create an additional folder under the installation directory.
SID values are the user and group identifiers used by Windows when setting file security. The following links provide additional information on SIDs.
List of commonly used SIDs:
Command line syntax for listing SID values of accounts defined on the system:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/wmisdk/wmic
Example usage: "wmic useraccount get name, sid"

New Features from superseded service packs
Features included in service pack 20
Enabling SSL for the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server:
Additional configuration needed after "Enabling SSL for the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server". Before recycling the "Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server" (step 6 for "Windows" and step 7 for "AIX/Linux" you need to edit your portal server environment file and add the following settings.
For Service pack 8 and later:
KFW_ORBPARM=-Dvbroker.security.server.socket.minTLSProtocol=TLS1_2 -Dvbroker.security.server.socket.maxTLSProtocol=TLS1_3
For service packs prior to Service pack 8:
KFW_ORB_ENABLED_PROTOCOLS=TLS_Version_1_2_Only
"Follow the Hub TEMS" feature:
Although the TEPS does not support the same "Fault Tolerant Option (FTO)" feature provided by the TEMS, it does support the ability to re-connect to a secondary Hub TEMS if communcations with the primary Hub TEMS is lost. This "Follow the Hub" feature requires some additional TEPS configuration, using the following procedure (note that the procedure differs slightly depending on whether the TEPS is installed on a Windows platform or non-Windows platform):
1) Windows platform: Edit the file <itm_install_dir>\CNPS\kfwenv
Non-Windows platform: Create / edit a file named cq.environment in the <itm_install_dir>/config directory
2) Windows platform: Add the following statement to the kfwenv file (all on a single line):
CT_CMSLIST=ip.pipe:<FQDN of primary Hub TEMS>;ip.spipe:<FQDN of primary Hub TEMS>;ip.pipe:<FQDN of secondary Hub TEMS;ip.spipe:<FQDN of secondary Hub TEMS>
Non-Windows platform: Add the following statement to the cq.environment file (all on a single line):
export CT_CMSLIST=ip.pipe:<FQDN of primary Hub TEMS>;ip.spipe:<FQDN of primary Hub TEMS>;ip.pipe:<FQDN of secondary Hub TEMS;ip.spipe:<FQDN of secondary Hub TEMS>
(Note that for all platforms, a semicolon character is placed between each <protocol>:<FQDN> entry in the statement.)
Below is a completed example of this statement for a non-Windows platform (all on a single line):
export CT_CMSLIST=ip.pipe:sp9rh791.fyre.ibm.com;ip.spipe:sp9rh791.fyre.ibm.com; ip.pipe:rh84anh1.fyre.ibm.com;ip.spipe:rh84anh1.fyre.ibm.com
3) Recycle the TEPS.
If the TEPS detects that the Hub TEMS connection has been lost, the TEPS will scan the CT_CMSLIST to locate a Hub TEMS address to try next. The "failback" scenario should also work, provided that the TEPS loses connection to the secondary Hub TEMS and the primary Hub TEMS is now available for connection.
You can, in principle, add more than just one secondary Hub TEMS to the list. For example, if you had 2 secondary Hub TEMS servers available, you could add another set of definitions to the CT_CMSLIST. Then, if the first two FQDN's in the list are unavailable, the TEPS will try and connect to the 3rd one in the list.
In general, it should take anywhere between 5 - 10 minutes for the "failover" to occur (depending on how quickly the disconnection is detected, and how quickly the TEPS can re-connect to the secondary Hub TEMS). During that time, the TEP client will report that communications with the TEMS has been lost. Then, after the connection with the secondary Hub TEMS has been established, the TEP client's Enterprise workspace will be displayed (or whatever "home" workspace that particular logged-on user has assigned).
Note that this feature is not an TEPS FTO solution. There is a single TEPS instance that is "following" the designated Hub TEMS as it fails over to a secondary TEMS.
Restricting the number of failed TEPS login attempts
The TEPS has long supported the ability to restrict the number of failed login attempts by the TEP client via the KFW_AUTHORIZATION_MAX_INVALID_LOGIN configuration variable, as described on the following page from the ITM documentation:
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/tivoli-monitoring/6.3.0?topic=settings-controlling-number-logon-attempts
However, if "clients" other than the TEP are attempting to login to the TEPS, the KFW_AUTHORIZATION_MAX_INVALID_LOGIN configuration variable is ineffective. An example of a non-TEP client would be the tacmd CLI component (e.g., use of the tacmd tepslogin command). In order to restrict the number of failed login attempts to the TEPS from these non-TEP client components, the KDHS_MAX_FAILED_LOGINS configuration variable associated with the Hub TEMS should be used, as described in the following document:
With the inclusion of both the KFW_AUTHORIZATION_MAX_INVALID_LOGIN configuration variable for the TEPS, and the KDHS_MAX_FAILED_LOGINS configuration variable for the Hub TEMS, the number of failed login attempts to the TEPS can be restricted, independent of the type of TEPS "client" involved.
