Abstract
The Native Rest API feature is available as a technology preview feature in the IBM Storage Scale 5.2.2.0 release.
Content
Overview
The Native Rest API feature introduces a new control plane component to the IBM Storage Scale stack to administer IBM Storage Scale clusters. By using the Native Rest API, it is no longer necessary to use the mm-command layer to administer IBM Storage Scale clusters. This feature introduces a few security enhancements:
- Eliminates the need for passwordless SSH.
- Introduces role-based access control to the control plane of IBM Storage Scale.
- Allows administration of IBM Storage Scale by unprivileged users.
- Allows remote administration of IBM Storage Scale cluster.
For the technology preview included with the 5.2.2.0 release, the available functionality in the Rest API is only a small subset of the overall functionalities that are available through the mm-commands. The intent is to port over functionality in phases.
Important: The Native Rest API component must not be used in production environments during its technology preview phase; it is intended for test environments only. Also, review the following section about restrictions and known issues.
For instructions on how to enable and run the Native Rest API feature, sign up for the technology preview by contacting scale@us.ibm.com.
