The IBM? SterlingFax Conversion Services includesthe following services:
EDI-to-Fax Conversion Service
EDI data can also be sent toyour business partner by fax. The EDI-to-Fax service converts yourEDI messages to a readable format and then faxes the resulting documentto your business partner. This is valuable if you have a businesspartner who cannot receive EDI transactions.
To request theEDI-to-Fax service contact Customer Support or your account representative.
EDI-to-Faxis available in the following types:
- Regular fax?Requires Customer Support to place the receiverfax number in its profile. The sender pays standard sending charges;the receiver pays standard receiving charges. Either the sender orreceiver can pay the media conversion charges.
- Fast fax?Requires the sender to specify the receiver faxnumber within the interchange header segment of the data such asthe ISA or BG segment. The sender pays the charges related to thistransaction.
An entire interchange includingall functional groups and transaction sets must be sent to the samefax number.
If an attempt to deliver the fax is unsuccessfulthe Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork faxdelivery system waits ten minutes and attempts to deliver the faxagain. The maximum number of dial attempts is:
- Ten attempts if the fax number is busy
- Two attempts if a person answers the fax number
For most standards you can choose to receive a functionalacknowledgment to indicate a successfully faxed document. The functionalacknowledgment option is not available for the UN/EDIFACT or TRADACOMSstandards. For more information see Notification Services.
Fax-to-EDI Conversion Service
Fax-to-EDI enables fax-dependantcompanies to trade electronically with EDI-enabled business partners.With this service the Fax2EDI Processing Center converts faxed documentsinto EDI documents and electronically sends the information to theappropriate business partners.
Fax-to-EDI is valuable if youhave a business partner who cannot create EDI documents. Faxes aresent to a specified fax number and converted into EDI using characterrecognition. The EDI document is then sent to the appropriate businesspartners. Status and tracking is available online for both tradingpartners. Fax-based business partners have three options for generatingfaxed documents:
- FaxMaker software (preferred)
- Their own software
- Handwritten forms
Web-based Data Tracking for EDI ConversionServices
Both fax clients and EDIclients have the ability to monitor the entire process using the Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork Fax-to-EDIand EDI-to-Fax Web site at www.fax2edi.comwww.fax2edi.com. From the Website you can view original fax and EDI documents view transactionstatistics and manage your business partners 24 hours per day sevendays per week.
All images EDI documents acknowledgmentsand confirmations are stored electronically for five years for theprotection of both parties.
