* Notes:

  • If a spoke server is running an earlier version than the hub server, some Operations Center functions might be unavailable, or limited, for the spoke. The earlier the version that is running on the spoke, the fewer functions are available for the spoke. Compatibility problems might also occur between a spoke server that is running an earlier version and the hub server. Compatibility problems can be fixed by upgrading the spoke server to run the same version as the hub server.
  • If a spoke server is running an earlier version than the hub server, the hub server might have Operations Center fixes that were not made to the earlier version. If you encounter problem behavior on the spoke server that is not exhibited by the hub server, consider upgrading the spoke server to run the same version as the hub server.
  • A spoke server cannot use a version of IBM Spectrum Protect that is later than the version on the hub server.
Some V8.1.16 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:
  • Starting in version 8.1.16, can now use Open Snap Store Manager (OSSM) as a gateway to storage that is managed by IBM Spectrum Protect. Through OSSM, an IBM Spectrum Protect Plus server can back up snapshots to directory-container storage pools. To support direct data backup operations from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, you install and configure the OSSM component on the same system as the IBM Spectrum Protect server. Through OSSM, the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus server can back up virtual machine snapshots to directory-container storage pools.
  • Starting in version 8.1.16, you can help protect containers in an IBM Cloud Object Storage and IBM Cloud Object Storage System from being deleted or overwritten by enabling cloud data lock when you define the storage pool. Cloud data lock leverages IBM Cloud's Immutable Object Storage feature for Write Once Read Many (WORM) storage. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, cloud data lock is not available.
Some V8.1.15 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:
  • Starting in version 8.1.15, you can configure a cloud-container storage pool to use the Glacier Instant Retrieval storage class of the Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, you cannot specify this storage class.
  • Starting in version 8.1.15, you can help protect containers in an Amazon S3 storage pool from being deleted or overwritten by enabling cloud data lock when you define the storage pool. Cloud data lock is available for the Amazon S3 cloud type for buckets hosed in Amazon Web Services (AWS). Cloud data lock uses Amazon S3's Object Lock feature for immutable Write Once Read Many (WORM) storage. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, cloud data lock is not available.
Some V8.1.14 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:
  • Starting in version 8.1.14, you can configure a cloud-container storage pool to use the Google Coldline and Google Archive storage classes of Google Cloud Storage. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, you cannot specify these storage classes.
  • Starting in version 8.1.14, you can require an administrator to log in to an IBM Spectrum Protect server by using multifactor authentication. If multifactor authentication is required on the hub server, the administrator must log in by using a one-time passcode in addition to their password. To connect a spoke server that is running version 8.1.14 or later, the administrator ID must be configured on the spoke server with the same password and the same shared secret for generating one-time passcodes. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, you cannot require multifactor authentication. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, the administrator ID is required only to be configured with the same password.
Some V8.1.13 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:
  • Starting in version 8.1.13, you can configure and schedule replication processing by creating replication storage rules. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, you cannot create replication storage rules.
  • Starting in version 8.1.13, retention sets can be saved to a retention storage pool that represents cloud object storage. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, a retention storage pool cannot represent cloud object storage. Retention sets that are created on the spoke server cannot be saved to cloud object storage.
  • Starting in version 8.1.13, you specify a cloud connection when you define a cloud-container storage pool. Because cloud connections are maintained separately from cloud-container storage pools, you can reuse the same connection for two cloud-container storage pools. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, you cannot specify a cloud connection when you define a cloud-container storage pool. Instead, you must specify all of the information that the server requires to connect to the cloud storage system.
Some V8.1.12 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:
  • From the new Tasks page, you can view status information for all active and completed tasks on servers that are managed by the Operations Center. The Tasks page shows tasks for spoke servers only if they are running IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1.12 or later.
  • V8.1.12 added support for Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server and Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server clients in retention sets. However, you cannot retain data for these client types if the client is registered on a spoke server that is running an earlier version.
  • You cannot enable a read-cache for a cloud-container storage pool if the pool is defined on a spoke server that is running an earlier version.
Some V8.1.11 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • You cannot copy a retention set to tape if the retention set is defined on a spoke server that is running an earlier version.
  • You cannot configure cloud-container storage pools to use Google Cloud Storage on a spoke server that is running an earlier version.
Some V8.1.10 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • You cannot copy a retention set to tape if the retention set is defined on a spoke server that is running an earlier version.
  • You cannot back up a spoke server's database to cloud object storage if the spoke server is running an earlier version.
Some V8.1.9 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • You cannot create a retention hold on spoke servers that are running an earlier version.
  • You cannot configure command approvals on spoke servers that are running an earlier version.
Some V8.1.8 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • When you are configuring automatic storage tiering by defining tiering rules, some options are not available for spoke servers that are running an earlier version. You cannot tier data to tape storage.
  •  Status information for tiering rules is not available for spoke servers that are running an earlier version.
  • On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, you cannot use the Run Now command button to process a tiering rule immediately. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, a tiering rule runs only if it is active and only at its scheduled time.
  • Object clients provide a way to copy data from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus. If a spoke server is running an earlier version, you cannot copy data to tape.
  • If you are defining a cloud-container storage pool on a server that is running V8.1.8, you can specify that data that is uploaded to Amazon S3 storage is sent to the S3 Intelligent-Tiering storage class. On a spoke server that is running an earlier version, data that is uploaded to Amazon S3 storage must be stored in the S3 Standard storage class.

Some V8.1.7 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • Retention rules and retention sets, which provide a new way to comply with long-term data retention requirements, cannot be created on spoke servers that are running an earlier version.
  • A new client type in V8.1.7, called an object client, provides a way to copy data from IBM Spectrum Protect Plus. You cannot define object clients on spoke servers that are running a version that is earlier than V8.1.6.

Some V8.1.6 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • When you are configuring automatic storage tiering by defining tiering rules, some options are not available for spoke servers that are running an earlier version. You cannot tier data by state, and you cannot define subrules to specify exceptions to a parent rule.

Some V8.1.5 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • Ransomware detection is not available for clients that are registered to spoke servers that are running an earlier version.
  • You cannot reclaim space in cloud-container storage pools that are defined on spoke servers that are running an earlier version.

Some V8.1.3 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • You cannot use the Operations Center to schedule client updates.
  • You cannot configure automatic storage tiering by defining storage rules.

Some V8.1.2 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • In V8.1.2, stricter security requirements are enforced for the Operations Center and servers. Spoke servers that are running earlier versions might continue to use their established level of encryption.

Some V8.1.0 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • You cannot use the Convert Storage Pool wizard to move data from primary storage pools that use a tape device class to directory-container storage pools or cloud-container storage pools.

Some V7.1.8 Operations Center features are not available for spoke servers that have an earlier version of IBM Spectrum Protect installed:

  • In V7.1.8, stricter security requirements are enforced for the Operations Center and servers. Spoke servers that are running earlier versions might continue to use their established level of encryption.
