IBM Support

IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software EAR project missing after publishing to server

Troubleshooting

Problem

The EAR project in the IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software workspace gets converted into an archive file and the EAR project is deleted when publishing an application which contains a webservices binding with the publishing settings "Run server with resources within the workspace" and "Minimize application files copied to the server" disabled.

Symptom

You may see the error when publishing:

Problems occurred refreshing the selected resources.

The project description file (.project) for '<EAR name>' is missing. This file contains important information about the project. The project will not function properly until this file is restored.

If you refresh your EAR project, it will show the contents as empty in your workspace.

If you check the workspace directory, the EAR project will be gone and an archive file with the EAR project's name will be present. There will be no file extension for this archive, it will just be the name of the EAR project.
