Summary
IBM implementation Services for Parallel Sysplex can help you implement/optimize a Parallel Sysplex environment to turn your expanding infrastructure into an effective, resilient foundation that can adapt to new technologies and support opportunities for growth.
Objective
This service is designed to help identify where you can improve your existing server infrastructure quickly and at the most reasonable price. If you are running in a single-system image and would like to migrate to Parallel Sysplex technology to take advantage of benefits such as workload balancing, higher availability and data sharing, this offering is for you. Or if you currently use sysplex technologies and want to fully exploit the benefits of implementing a Parallel Sysplex environment, you can turn to IBM to support your efforts.
It consists of eight selectable modules. Each module is standalone and can be individually acquired. The first module is an assessment module, followed by seven modules which address areas in design & implementation, migration & configuration, availability & performance, operation, maintenance strategy & implementation, production cutover and deployment in a System z Sysplex environment.
To ease customer’s buying and budgeting for Parallel Sysplex needs, each of the first seven modules comes with a defined scope of work and a fixed price. The eight modules which can be individually acquired (based on customer’s needs) are:
Module 1: z/OS and sysplex infrastructure review — This module helps identify your IBM z/OS® and sysplex infrastructure requirements. IBM professionals perform a high-level assessment and gap analysis and then provide recommendations on how to proceed.
Module 2: z/OS and sysplex infrastructure planning, design and implementation — Based on your infrastructure configuration and requirements, this module delivers an IBM SystemPac® solution with best-practice sysplex system layout. Plus, you gain skills transfer throughout the process.
Module 3: z/OS and sysplex availability and performance assessment — This module helps identify areas of exposure that could affect the availability, performance and serviceability of your environment, and it includes recommendations on how to proceed.
Module 4: z/OS Parallel Sysplex configuration assistance — This module assists you with required sysplex configuration of various components. It also offers options for data-sharing enablement, Job Entry Subsystem 2 (JES2) exit migration, and hierarchical file system (HFS) to IBM System z™ File System (zFS) conversion.
Module5: z/OS sysplex operator training — This module provides training that is customized to your unique needs and environment.
Module 6: z/OS sysplex maintenance strategy — This module helps create a maintenance strategy to use automation and electronic delivery of maintenance.
Module 7: z/OS sysplex environment design and implementation — This option includes an extensively documented maintenance deployment process and also provides assistance in the implementation of the first z/OS cloned image.
Module 8: z/OS sysplex production cutover and deployment planning — This module provides test and implementation plans as well as production cutover and deployment. Possible back-out considerations may also be reviewed.
