Important changes and enhancements in this release
Lightweight and easy to use data stewardship
This release includes several functional changes to support the ability to perform lightweight stewardship and the ability to manually override matching for any given record or entity. Prior to having stewardship, users were forced to accept the system’s view of which records should or shouldn’t be matched together. Now, users can exert control over this process by applying organizational context that only they possess, which can be fundamental in recognizing unique scenarios, such as the fact that two distinct customer entities should actually be one. Stewardship in MDM Express provides users with:
- The power to make informed decisions by having the ability to look at why records were matched by the system and looking at the scores assigned to each pair of records inside an entity.
- A way to view records that were close, but not matched by the system.
- The ability to perform actions such as:
- unlinking a record from an existing entity into its own entity
- moving a record from one entity into another
- merging two entities together
These actions can be done using the user interface or for by using advanced integration with the MDM Express REST APIs.
Maintaining data using the MDM Express user interface
In line with the theme of putting control in users’ hands, and in addition to providing Create, Update, Delete REST APIs in the last release, users can now create, update, and delete data at the record level using the MDM Express User Interface.
The user interface also groups this data based on metadata controlled by the model, so any updates to the model including adding fields, removing fields, or creating groupings will reflect in the user interface in real time.
Adding, updating, or deleting a record using the user interface will result in the data being updated in real time as incremental matching gets triggered in the background to form a real time view of your entities.
Export Enhancements
Not all users turn to MDM Express to enhance their operational MDM systems. There’s a growing need for analytical MDM support as well. To address this need, this release introduces the ability to export a subset of records based on a last updated timestamp This function is intended for use cases where you need to push updates to your MDM System on a periodic basis and want to export the data that has changed as a result. For example, let’s say a subset of customer data was updated in a source system and sent to MDM Express using the Update API. To support an upcoming, very targeted marketing campaign, you need to understand which customers’ data were changed based on the last updated. Thanks to this enhancement, any resulting entity changes can be separately exported by doing a timestamp-based export and the source system updated with the entity changes. To further support this ability, this release of MDM Express adds:
- Exported records including entity IDs and system record IDs along with the record data. The internal system record ID is a unique ID assigned to each ingested record.
- Exported entities including the internal system record IDs associated with each entity, along with the number of records inside that entity.
API Enhancements
Not all users get MDM Express up and running with the user interface, These users can instead leverage the rich set of MDM Express APIs for a faster and more care-free data ingestion. As a result, the API based upload bulk data has been enhanced to make it easier to upload files while creating the collection the file goes into. This release also adds:
- The ability to create an empty collection using the API (for CRUD use cases where there is no bulk upload being done initially).
- A set of diagnostic APIs to enable advanced Probabilistic Matching Engine (PME) users to pass record IDs and see the standardization data or comparison details and scores.
Known issues
For a list of known issues introduced or discovered in this release of IBM MDM Express, see the following subsections.
For a complete list of known issues and limitations in the product, see the following Knowledge Center section: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSWSR9_11.6.0/com.ibm.swg.im.mdmhs.mdmexpress.doc/topics/mdmx_troubleshooting.html
Known Issues in this version of the Mac and Windows Download and Go (D&G) application:
The following known issues exist when using the Download and Go (D&G) application to install IBM MDM Express Base Subscription or IBM MDM Express Trial version:
- Make sure that the previous Docker image, container and related files are uninstalled and removed before installing v1.0.0.2.
- On Mac, after uninstalling the previous Docker container, images, and D&G application, also delete the mdm plist files in ~/Library/Preferences/
- com.ibm.mdmdg.plist
- com.ibm.dgmdm.plist
- On Windows, after uninstalling the previous Docker container, images and D&G application, also delete the MDM related folders and files in
- <user-home>/AppData/Local/ - folder named: ibmbigmatch
- <user-home>/AppData/Roaming/
- comibmmdmdg.log
- comibmdgmdm.log
- Folder named: IBM MDM Express DG
- On Mac, after uninstalling the previous Docker container, images, and D&G application, also delete the mdm plist files in ~/Library/Preferences/
- Delays during license check (292)
During subsequent startups of the D&G application, there is a slight delay between when the license check is done and the next screen is shown. - Windows Firewall might block the D&G application (198)
If Windows Firewall is enabled, it might prevent the D&G application from working. To resolve this issue, add the D&G application as an exception in the firewall rules. - Slight delay while the D&G application connects to the License server
After Install and on subsequent startups of the D&G application, it will connect to the license server and show the IBMid login screen for a few seconds but since the user token is saved in the application, it will proceed to the next screen after a few seconds. User will see a slight delay during that time
