IBM Support

IBM MantraVM defined

Question & Answer

Question

What is the IBM MantraVM

Answer

The MantraVM service is a virtual server environment that runs the Netezza Mantra compliance and auditing application directly on a Netezza host (such as a TwinFin system). Beginning in August of 2010, the MantraVM service comes installed on new TwinFin systems. Earlier TwinFin systems shipped with a separate Mantra appliance. Look for the /nz/mantravm directory to determine whether the MantraVM service is installed on the system. See Chapter 15 of the IBM Netezza System Administrator’s Guide for detailed information on managing the MantraVM service.

Note: Skimmer systems do not support the MantraVM service.

Within the MantraVM service, the Mantra application operates identically to a standalone Mantra appliance; the management tasks are identical in terms of configuration, reporting, backups, and so on. For details about Mantra compliance reporting, events, and configuration, see the Netezza Mantra Administration Guide, which is available on the Mantra Web
interface. To access the guide, refer to the guide referenced below, Where do I get the Admin Guide for the Mantra appliance?

Note: The Mantra appliance can monitor other external DB’s, but MantraVM can monitor its own TwinFin only. Specifically, TwinFin-bundled Mantras, whether hardware or virtual, are restricted by license, not by technical barriers, to auditing their accompanying TwinFins.
