How to Install Java on Windows

Resolving The Problem

If you are running the Windows 8 operating system, please click on the link provided below. Otherwise, please follow the instructions to install the latest version of Java.

Install Java for Windows 8

  • Go to www.java.com.
  • Click on Free Java Download.
  • Click on Agree and Start Free Download.
  • Choose the Run option.
    • In Mozilla Firefox, you will need to save the file.
    • The file will then appear in a window containing your recent Downloads.
    • Locate your Downloads by pressing [CTRL] + [J] on your keyboard.
    • Double click on the file to open it.
    • Select Run.
  • Click on Install.
  • It may prompt you to install an additional toolbar. This is NOT required. Please un-check this or choose Do not update browser settings and click on next.
  • When you have completed the installation, you will receive the message that says, “You have successfully installed Java”.
  • Click on Close.
  • Another window will appear. Click on Verify Java Version.
  • Click on Run.
  • If you have the latest version of Java and there are no conflicting versions on your computer, you will receive the message that says, “You have the recommended Java Installed”.
    • If the Java detection finds an out of date version on your computer, please run the Java Uninstall Tool to remove it.
  • Close the browser and restart your computer to apply these changes.

If you continue to experience issues with the assessment, you may also need to Enable Java in your browser.

If the installation was unsuccessful, you may want to uninstall the Java on your computer and reinstall it, to correct any configuration issues.
