Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempt to upgrade to a more recent version of IBM Rational Application Developer for Websphere Software (RAD), Installation Manager (IM) results in the error "JVMJ9VM015W initialisation error ... ".
Symptom
The IBM Installation Manager log contains the error:
JVMJ9VM015W initialisation error for library j9gc24 (2): Instanciation of the Heap is missed 1G necessarily
The Eclipse initialisation returned the error status 1
Cause
This is a operating system (OS) specific problem where the dbghelp library is not being loaded in the preferred memory address. As a result, no single block of memory of 1Gb or larger is available. The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) does not start, because the JRE needs a continuous space of memory pre-allocated.
Resolving The Problem
You can contact Microsoft Support for advise.
Another option consist on try starting up Windows with most services disabled to see if you can find out any application that could cause the error.
To find out where the OS loads the library, you can use Process Explorer.
- In Process Explorer Click Find > Find Handle and DLL. Then search for dbghelp.
- You can then see what process use that DLL. Then you double click it.
- Right-click > properties. You will see the load address. The expected address is like 0x59A60000.
