IBM InfoSphere Information Server DataStage AppWatcher Service cannot start due to a services-specific error code

Troubleshooting


Problem

IBM InfoSphere Information Server DataStage AppWatcher Service cannot start due to the error "Windows could not start the DataStage AppWatcher Service on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to services-specific error code 1.".

Symptom

On the Windows Services dialog (Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services), DataStage AppWatcher Service is displayed as not started:


Select 'DataStage AppWatcher Service' from the Services dialog, and click on the 'Start' option from the menu. The error message below is displayed:


The Windows event log may contain the "Incorrect function" error below:


In the DSODB\logs\AppWatcher_Cmd.log, it contains a message indicating the AppWatcher is already running.
For example,
In C:\IBM\InformationServer\Server\DSODB\logs\AppWatcher_Cmd.log
2018/02/24 22:15:02: AppWatcher start requested.
2018/02/24 22:15:02: AppWatcher already running.
