IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook: Importing a revised link strength does not update the existing link's strength

Troubleshooting

Problem

When data is imported into an IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook chart, the first value assigned to a link strength e.g. Tentative. is not updated if data is subsequently imported and the link strength is changed to a different value e.g. Confirmed. This affects links that do not have Multiple set as their Multiplicity of Connection value in the import spec (set under Assign Column).

Cause

To prevent data loss Analyst's Notebook does not update link strengths for Single or Directed links that already exist on a chart, when subsequently running an import spec.

Diagnosing The Problem

Resolving The Problem

Change your link Multiplicity of Connection value to Multiple in the import spec, under Assign Columns and with the link selected, then an additional link will be created between the two entities and it will reflect the correct strength as defined in the subsequent import spec.

Alternatively, make the change manually to the existing link on the chart by right clicking on it -> Strength -> Choose the new value.

An enhancement request has been raised to include this functionality in a later version of IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook.
