IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS) "Check for Updates" feature

Troubleshooting

Problem

How the IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS) "Check for Updates" feature communicates to an external IBM web location or local IBM i system and what the function does may be important to your environment and network configuration.

Resolving The Problem

IBM i Access Client Solutions (ACS) provides a "Check for Updates" feature under the Help menu on the ACS main panel, or by selecting Edit -> Preferences, then "Notify when update is available." If the current available version of ACS is newer than what the client is running, the user will be notified that an update is available.

When the "Check for Updates" feature is selected, it uses an https connection to an external IBM web location to see if a more current version is available.

Alternatively, you can configure an IBM i system as an update location which can be used for checking and installing ACS updates. For further information on configuring an IBM i system as an update location for ACS, see the section titled "Setting up an IBM i Update Location" in the ACS "Getting Started" documentation (on the ACS main panel, select Help -> Getting Started).
