  • IBM strongly recommends upgrading to 1.1.9.4 to receive critical security fixes. Continued use of prior versions is not recommended.

    Use of 1.1.9.4 and a prior version on the same workstation might cause unexpected prompts for credentials.

    Special instructions:

    In addition to updating acsbundle.jar on all platforms, any deployment on Windows that uses acslaunch_win-XX.exe (where XX=32 or 64) to start ACS, also needs to update acslaunch_win-XX.exe, acsnative.dll and acspcoc.exe.

    Note: These files are updated automatically when you use any of the following methods to update ACS:

    • An installation script in the Windows_Application folder
    • A configured IBM i location with the command-line /plugin=installupdates
    • A configured IBM i location with "Install Update" from the ACS main GUI (available from Help→About, "Check for Updates" when an IBM i location is configured for updates)

    All other deployments on Windows that use these .exe and .dll files need to make sure the most recent versions of these files are being used. Failure to use the updated files in combination with acsbundle.jar might result in a failed connection to the IBM i host.

  • The heap size used by ACS will no longer default to 1 gigabyte. The heap size is determined by the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and the PC available memory. In most cases, the heap size is set to 25% of the PC's installed memory.
    The heap size can be overridden by using the -Xmx option on the command-line, with a desktop shortcut, or by setting the JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS environment variable.
    The following examples set the heap size to 2 gigabytes:
    • Example 1 (command-line or desktop shortcut):
      Start_Programs\Windows_x86-64\acslaunch_win-64.exe -Xmx2g
    • Example 2 (setting the JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS environment variable):
      JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS=-Xmx2g
  • When using "Open Source Package Management", a change was made to use the standard SSH known_hosts file. That means you can expect to be prompted to accept the fingerprint of the IBM i server the first time you connect after installing this update.
  • Mac users that install their updates from a configured IBM i location using "Help→Check for Updates" must install the update, restart ACS, run "Help→Check for Updates" a second time, install the update, restart ACS again.
