IBM Rational Developer for i – RDi 9.8.0.3
The planned delivery date is Dec 19th 2024
|
|
We continue to focus on developer productivity and ease of use. With 9.8.0.3, our focus will be on closing out as many reported problems as possible, while continuing to deliver improvements.
Integrated File System (IFS) Improvements:
For years, the response time of the IFS filters was slow. In 9.8.0.3 we have improved the speed of initial IFS queries, so you had better get your coffee BEFORE expanding the qsys.lib filter!
We’ll also introduce a new convenient table view for helping you quickly navigate the IFS file system.
Delta Compare:
In 9.8.0.2 we improved the interface for the delta compare button. That’s the one that displays the LPEX compare feature.
You liked the new quicker selection, but some of you wanted to choose the ‘RDi Member Compare’, so in 9.8.0.3 you can choose the ‘RDi Member Compare’!
ILE Docs and @TAG support:
- Build ILE Doc listings for a Library/File
- Adding F1 help for tag support so users can quickly find the help they need for RDi Tags.
JVM Support changes:
We will be switching to run our IBM Semeru Java from a plugin, instead of cryptic named JDK folders. We’ll also clean up some of those older JDK folders in 9.8.0.3.
Currency:
We’ll also continue to keep you update to date!
- RPG Fall 2024 language support, so you can keep modernizing your RPG code
- SQL ACS Format support update
- New JVM 11 and JTOpen
IBM PowerHA SystemMirror for IBM i 7.5 with HA version 5.6.3 continues to evolve, featuring strategic integrations with the IBM PowerVS offering. Previously, PowerHA for i was available in PowerVS when utilizing storage agnostic technologies such as Geographic Mirroring. While Geographic Mirroring, including multi-target Geographic Mirroring, continues to provide solutions for both cloud and Hybrid-Cloud environments, these new integrations provide additional capabilities and options within IBM PowerVS.
With HA 5.6.3, PowerHA has introduced support for integrating IASP-based replication and switching technologies to PowerVS including Global Replication Services (GRS) with IASPs. The integration with GRS enables PowerHA management of SAN-based replication in PowerVS. GRS provides asynchronous replication between two data centers in PowerVS. This provides a similar management experience to Global Mirror technologies used in on-premise environments.
There are several other enhancements to PowerHA. For more information on these enhancements and to get started, see the IBM PowerHA SystemMirror for i documentation page.
The planned availability date for these PowerHA enhancements is December 27, 2024.
IBM Backup, Recovery and Media Services for i (BRMS) subscription term enhances the BRMS SQL services:
- QUSRBRM.CG_BACKUP_STATUS view now includes archive control group data. Note that this data is tracked after PTF application and control group execution
- RSTLIBBRM command is optimized for restore performance by executing a single RSTDFROBJ DFRID(Q1ARSTID) command at restore completion when restoring multiple libraries or using generic specifications
- RSTLIBBRM command is expanded to restore libraries absent from the system during generic restores. Previously, the command restored only existing libraries when using a generic library value for the Library (LIB) parameter
- Phase 1 of the BRMS Web Interface provides a simplified view of backup and media health information
- BRMS SQL services Introduced new SQL services to provide detailed information about BRMS control groups, backups, and system policies. These services include:
- QUSRBRM.CONTROL_GROUP view
- QUSRBRM.CONTROL_GROUP_ENTRY view
- QUSRBRM.CONTROL_GROUP_SUBSYSTEM view
- QUSRBRM.CONTROL_GROUP_JOB_QUEUE view
- QUSRBRM.BACKUP_LIST view
- QUSRBRM.BACKUP_OBJECT_LIST view
- QUSRBRM.BACKUP_SPLF_LIST view
- QUSRBRM.BACKUP_IFS_LIST view
- QUSRBRM.BACKUP_FOLDER_LIST view
- QUSRBRM.BACKUP_POLICY view
- QUSRBRM.SYSTEM_POLICY view
The planned availability date for these BRMS enhancements is December 15th, 2024.
- IBM i 7.5 – PTF SJ02198
These and other enhancements are described in the Enhancements to BRMS landing page.
Community and IBM contributions have continued to enhance the VSCode ecosystem for IBM i developers:
- Ability to compile non-IFS sources from the local workstation
- Polish, German, Spanish and Danish, Finnish language translations
- Ability to cancel connecting to system
