Problem

When using the option static Internet Protocol (IP) addresses or address pools for temporary IP settings, IBM FastSetup may fail to place the system into Maintenance mode due to the inability to configure the 'netmask' value. If users click the failedicon, the following message is displayed: EIZUI7108E: IBM FastSetup failed to start the server

Symptom

When using the option static Internet Protocol (IP) addresses or address pools for temporary IP settings, IBM FastSetup may fail to place the system into Maintenance mode due to the inability to configure the 'netmask' value.

If users click the failed icon, the following message is displayed:

  EIZUI7108E: IBM FastSetup failed to start the server

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • IBM FastSetup, 1.00

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not option specific.

The system has the symptom described above.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Solution

This behavior was corrected in IBM FastSetup version 3.00.

The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

Workaround

Workaround 1:

  • Configure an external Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server and use the option DHCP on the Temporary IP Settings panel of FastSetup.

Workaround 2:

  • Rerun FastSetup.

Additional information

There have been cases where FastSetup will fail to place the system in Maintenance mode when users select Address Pools or the static IP address options in the Temporary IP Settings page.

When the failure occurs, users should check the remote console on the target system to confirm that FastSetup failed to configure the 'netmask' value.

This issue has been fixed in IBM FastSetup version 3.00.
